Level 86. For a moment I thought maybe I should put an end to my particular method of things and just carry on blind, after all, what could possibly go wrong with a character after any given squish in any area? Then my scout landed on The Skybreaker by accident because that's how unfamiliar I am with Northrend. Then my scout got shot at by a Gargoyle Ambusher which, it turns out, has an ability almost as bad and deadly as the infamous Aimed Shot. So certainly no method changes for me. Scout with a Loremaster character first, Iron after, and that's how things will remain. I'm still in Icecrown and have quite a lot of quests to complete, but I'm confident that I will move on to Cata by tomorrow and, at the very least, level 90 by prepatch. Perhaps I'll even be level 87 by the time I get to Cata. I'm still earning a surprising amount of XP in Northrend after all.

Anaralah, today my Iron was able to buy from the Silvermoon Argent Crusade quartermaster, so I grabbed the Silvermoon banner toy, specifically because it reminds me of you and how encouraging you are. ^_^ I'm still going for the first ever (as far as I know) Blood Elf Iron. I hope you'll join me. That's so neat, and thank you for your encouragement and positivity! 💓 I've really enjoyed and learned a lot from reading about your journey, and also reading other challengers' comments in this thread has been very informative as well. Very inspiring, hoping also to join you in a successful journey ☺ Al diel shala, friend. Tal anu'men no Sin'dorei!

Level 87. Still alive. I did most of Icecrown, skipping only the quests that flag you for PVP, the Battle at Valhalas arena quests, and one final 5 group quest in a chain: The Fate of Bloodbane. I'm not sure why Vehicle quests are so hated in this zone - they all seemed fine to me. Many of them won't kill you even if you do fail the quest, which is quite unusual for vehicle quests. Now I'm in Vashj'ir. One of the first quests, Blood and Thunder (a Horde only quest, not sure if there's an Alliance version) is a potential death trap for anyone who visits Vashj'ir before the squish and doesn't know how to complete the quest effectively. It was easy for me now, but I'm so glad I didn't risk visiting Vashj'ir and doing the first few quests when I reached level 80 - I was so tempted to, and I probably would have died. Vashj'ir has a few level ?? elite mobs swimming around. The whale sharks are terrifying but harmless, providing you don't attack one. The sea snake Velskar is a different story. While you do have to get close to it first, it will attack you and it will one shot you. There's some horror stories on wowhead about people swimming out of bases straight into it, only to get killed. Not fun. The quest Looking Forward worked fine on my scout, but bugged out on my Iron badly. There's a wall that's supposed to disappear and didn't. Almost all the comments on wowhead recommend dying next to the wall and then resurrecting inside the base. Needless to say, that wasn't an option. Thankfully one comment suggested using a cushion toy to get through the wall. This not only works perfectly, it's finally given my many cushion toys a purpose. Other than that, questing in Vashj'ir has been fairly easy and rewarding. I loved this zone when I first did it back in Cata, and I'm beginning to remember why. (Queen Azshara and Naga lore ftw <3) I haven't felt the need to skip a single quest yet, and doubt I will at all.

Level 88
I really hoped to be level 90 by today, but alas I have a social life.
I completed Vashj'ir. Now I see why so many people dislike the zone. It turns out that there was a magnificent ending originally, but it bugged out so badly, they eventually just removed it and replaced it with a "kill 15 Naga" quest.
That's how the zone ends. It's incredibly anti-climatic.
As an NPC said in the original ending, "Thrall's balls! I'm sick of killing Naga!"
Still, Vashj'ir was loads of fun and I gained almost a whole level. (Plants vs Zombies took me all the way). There wasn't a single quest to skip, not at my level, though I still say that entering Vashj'ir at any level below 86 as a Horde is asking to die. It's onto Mount Hyjal next. Then, I supposed, Deepholm. Uldum, and finally Twilight Highlands.

Sometimes it stays intact which means the zone's quest chain ends with an NPC stuck behind a wall.

You stand as close to the wall as you can, facing it, drop the cushion, sit on it, and then get up. Takes you back and forth through the wall, easy as pie. *edit* of course it's still an incredibly frustrating bug, and one Blizzard really should have fixed by now.

It's onto Mount Hyjal next. Then, I supposed, Deepholm. Uldum, and finally Twilight Highlands. This is your challenge and i know you use a scout, but i wouldnt bother with Twilight Highlands, Mount hyjal is wonderful and linear, my personal favourite area when it comes to leveling in Ironman Cata. Deepholme is beautiful and a complete joy, Uldum has its qualitys but a few buggy qs, but imo Twilight Highlands after the opening the portal back to orgrimmar is asking for trouble. Make up your levels with Fireland and Tol Barad dailys. Its the safest way to get to 90-91, jumping to the panda dailys/treasures/discover. Just my opinion ofc, do this challenge as you will, just friendly advice. Seen too many die at 85-90 lately, doing the wrong things, wether thats to do with lack of experience at high levels or lack of patience to get there.

Thank you Margothon, I'll be going through Twilight Highlands with a scout either way for lore exploration purposes, but I'll definitely keep that advice in mind.

Thinking of you! You can do it! (And I hated Twilight Highlands even on normal toons...not a zone I'd hang around too long )

Deepholme is beautiful and a complete joy Deepholme has some a few tricky bits: * The intro can bug out. Aggra is supposed to take you through the portal safely. There's a rare bug where she takes you through the portal and dismounts you. It's a long way down. (Most recent report I can find is from 2015: us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/17346267419 ) * There's a quest that involves hopping on floating blocks. Cleared it without scouting but I had second thoughts the whole time. * Wrath of the Fungalmancer has Doomshrooms, which are capable of hitting you for 2k even with the stat squish. I cleared this one without scouting but I wish I had scouted that one, too.

Intro quest to Mount Hyjal is perfectly safe and gives over 9000xp when xp isn't squished. Another simple breadcrumb quest is worth over 4000xp. Would have been nice to know when my Iron was level 80, but ah well. The quest Get Me Outta Here! is the first escort quest I've ever come across where it's entirely possible to make friends with the mobs your quest giver is escaping first, completely removing all risk. At level 88, there was never any risk for my Iron to begin with anyway, but still, a lower level Iron might find the tip useful. All you have to do is complete Elementary! first. I did not do the Flight in the Firelands questline, despite being good at it and not being able to find any special mention of it in either the mobs & quests to avoid thread or the death rage thread. A vehicle quest, with molten lava underneath waiting to kill you if even one thing goes wrong? Haha, no thanks. It's not necessary to complete before continuing the main quest chain anyway, plus it's only level 81 so gives minimal XP. I stopped Mount Hyjal on my Iron when I got to Mental Training. The questions are easy and, apparently it doesn't do as much damage when you're a high level, but I wasn't able to test the damage it does after the squish myself, and that quest has been guilty of too many deaths for me to risk it. Hyjal only provided me with under half a level. Quite disappointing after Vashj'ir. I also think that, contrary to the mobs & quests to avoid thread, starting out in Hyjal may be safer, especially if you're Horde. It makes no real difference after the squish, but Hyjal seems to be more level 81 quests only while Vashj'ir advances to level 82 quests (and more XP per quest) quite quickly. The scout I used for Hyjal is level 85 now, so I will be able to scout Hyjal dailies. Gonna see how that goes before advancing to Deepholm.

I dont see how anyone could possibly die on Mental Training. The questions are as follows Q: Do Dogs bark? Q: Do Rivers flow upstream? Q: Are Deserts lush? Q: Are Slaves free? Q: Are Oceans filled with water? Q: Do Liars speak the truth? Q: Is Fire hot? Q: Is Vinegar sour? Q: Is Blood red? Q: Is Ice hot? Q: Do Maggots feast on corpses? Q: Do Giants tread lightly? Q: Does Fire consume stone? Q: Do Wolves Howl? Q: Do Murderers kill? Q: Do Rocks float on water? Really? cause of so many deaths, lol, its surprising. Tol barad dailys and Fireland dailys are completely safe for hunters at 86, other classes not so much maybe 87-88 depending on class 89 for the more squishy classes i can only imagine. Having done a level 100 Hunter and Monk, these dailys were imperative to getting to a safe 92-93, linking up to Panda dailys which there are 4-5 non combat ones to utilise at 90 in Pandaria. Safe travels.

Sure, but one person died because the quest glitched out. If you take too long to answer, it does damage to you as well. DC and lag are usually a risk anyway, but if they happen while I'm on this exact quest, I will die. I also have this thing where I'll accidentally hit the wrong button in a moment of panic. It's just not worth the stress to unlock quests that will, if you add it all up, not give me much more than 1 maybe 2 rounds of plants vs zombies.

After unlocking and starting on the Mount Hyjal dailies, I was 80% to level 89.
I decided screw this, and went and did exactly the quests I said I was going to skip. Flight in the Firelands isn't even a bit risky. I didn't get a question wrong in Mental Training so can't tell you if getting one wrong does one shot you or not.
Mental Training unlocked a handful of other quests, including a couple of level 82 quests. So I completely finished Mount Hyjal, (except Thrall still has some quests for me that I want to save for when I'm level 90), and it took me to 93%. A far more satisfying place to be after completing an entire zone. ^_^

Safe travels. 1) The time limit is fairly tight. 2) If you get spooked after getting a question wrong and seeing most of your hit points evaporate, you're in trouble. 3) Mental Training uses the vehicle interface. Several popular WoW UI replacements aren't that great for vehicles--they have tiny icons that you often have to mouse over to figure out what they do. This wouldn't be a problem except for the time limit. 3) Several of the questions can be tricky for anyone who speaks English as a second language: "tread lightly", "consume stone" are less common phrases; "lush" is the 19,006th most common word in Project Guttenberg texts, "maggot" is 20,610th. 4) Meta-gaming can get you killed. If you're expecting trick questions, you've tricked yourself--there are no trick questions, at least not intentionally. 5) The more you know, the more you know about the exceptions that make many of the questions ambiguous. * Do rocks float? Volcanic rocks can. (You can find people in aquarium forums asking how they can get their pumice rocks to stop floating.) * Do rivers flow upstream? In cases like floods, they can. * Is blood red? In most mammals, yes. Other animals have yellow, blue, green, purple or even clear blood.
