Hi all. I play a hunter, so the top weapon I can get before level 60 (besides the Recurve Bow and Primed Musket) is the BKP 42 "Ultra" (18 - 34 Damage, 12.38 damage per second). But I saw someone mention they prefer to stick to the Heavy Crossbow (32 Damage, 11.43 damage per second). I assume this is because the crossbow has one set damage amount, while the gun is ranged, but I'm not even entirely sure what that means. I've also noticed the crossbow is faster. But my game wants to tell me the gun has higher DPS than the crossbow. Is the crossbow really better? Also, once I get to level 60, is it best to buy the crossbow, gun or bow there? www.wowhead.com/npc=18962/bar-talet The crossbow looks best to me but I'm not sure. Any advice? Thank you!

Here's WoWhead's list of bows, crossbows, and guns, sorted by DPS (descending): www.wowhead.com/items=2?filter=ub=3;qu=0:1;ty=2:18:3;eb=1#items:0-6-2The Brunnhildar Bow is unusual: it does +5 frost damage per shot, but it's not easy to buy. You either need to pass the Drakkensryd (A quest where you use a harpoon to leap from dragon to dragon while trying to win 10 melee fights. Screw up and it's a loooooong way down...) or buy it on the auction house from someone else who passed the quest. Dunno about how weapons affect hunter skills, but you might want to check how each weapon affects your skills. Sometimes a weapon will have synergy with your skills. (E.g., for rogues, the best weapon for boosting Sinister Strike damage is the Brunnhildar Axe. On the other hand, faster weapons help skills that have a chance to proc with every hit.)

The slower the weapon speed the better, the usual route would be bkp to 60, then crossbow/bow from blades edge really your choice, my personal choice is the crossbow. Dalaran bow or crossbow your choice at 70. The brunhilder bow will take you to the end. This can be aquired safely at 77/78 from storm peaks with a fairly easy questline.

This is incorrect you do not need to do this quest to get to the brunhildar npc that sells the weapons, the questline is fairly easy, but should probably be taken on at your classes appropriate level, this probably changes class to class, i can only speak from a hunter and monks point of view and i did both at 78. As for Rogues and warriors, there are much more qualified people that could answer the safest time to tackle this questline than me.

This is incorrect you do not need to do this quest to get to the brunhildar npc that sells the weapons, Oh, crap, I did the Drakkensyrd for almost nothing then. Oops! (The Drakkensyrd quest isn't that hard if you have sufficient fighting skills, but it's a bit touchy. It killed my scout when I targeted a dragon that was a bit too far away; the damn thing despawned while my scout was in mid-air.)[/quote]

Ah man, I'm still getting used to the forum. >_< Why is it that "The slower the weapon speed the better"? slower weapons give more damage to steady shot "white" non-spell dmg "ranged melee", faster weapons gives more damage to spells, seeing as we dont have any spells, well arcane shot being the only one. (not having talents). IMO and dont take me for gospel truth, a slower weapon in this case for an ironman hunter is more beneficial, but we are talking about the tiniest of numbers here. Thats why i also say its a matter of choice for yourself wether you want the bow or the crossbow from Blades Edge and Dalaran, looks for example. If this was an ironman raiding guild i would recommend you take the crossbow, min/maxxing, for example. But you take what you want. EDIT: also a faster weapon would be used to get more out of crits and procs, seeing as we dont have much of that going on in our white gear, more reason to have a slower weapon to benefit the thing we use the most.

Yeah the difference in damage isn't very noticeable imo. At least it's nothing to worry about. I used the Heavy Crossbow until 60 ( www.wowhead.com/item=15809/heavy-crossbow ) and didn't feel my damage was suffering or anything. I had the BKP 42 "Ultra" but I hate using guns, even after they made the sound less annoying.
