Hi everyone, I want to share with you what I found out about this bloodthirsty cave. A couple of weeks ago my lv63 hunter died in this cave. Last weekend I've heard the podcast with Tarcanus and went curious again. Today I took my hunter to the cave. This time I could solve every quest in there without dying. I got aggro four times and one time my pet only. Both, Shadowmeld and feign death work on losing aggro. Certain areas are probably save: bottom of the pit and the paths near the entrance. I did'nt noticed anything there. But if you got aggro it will follow you around everywhere in the cave. I marked the dangerous areas with a red circle on the map.

Thanks for sharing this. The part to the left (west)matches what I've encountered with a couple of my toons.

Yep, ditto. I've never had trouble around the entrance, but start heading towards the very tight corner at the bottom left of the picture (where the item for one of the quests is) and while sometimes I've had no trouble, other times I've been aggroed on; I've reached the conclusion it's not worth the risk for ironman any more, I just do the kill mobs one as that can be done outside and around the entrance in relative safety.
Amazing how long a bug can persist for...

I always avoid that cave now. The XP you get from doing the quests is not worth possibly dying and having to start all over. But I think that map is helpful for people who still want to try. It is crazy how Blizz doesn't care to fix it, especially since people have reported it. But I guess from their perspective, if all it does is cause a character to die and not prevent them from completing the quest (and dying is part of the game after all), it'll probably never get fixed.

You will not get aggro from the invisible mob if that is what are are talking about if you do ZERO AoE abilities.... this includes pet ones like thunderclap (hunter tanking pets) or the warlock pet AoE taunt. Some people have claimed otherwise, but I spent nearly a half hour testing and re-testing this theory and only ever got aggro on a character when an AoE effect was used. Once you avoid this issue the only troublesome part of that cave is pulling the named solo for the one quest.

If you are a hunter and are particularly skilled at kiting just go in without a pet, this is what i did on my hunters, i guess warlock may be a bit trickier. With other classes, i cant really think of any passive aoe abilitys that you would use to dps down a single target. I may be wrong as the only experience i have had with this cave is on 4 different hunters, first one getting the aggro off the invisible mob, i shadowmelded and HS out, read about it on forums then went in there on hunters in the future without pet with no problems. My monks have never experienced the problem.

You can get unlucky even without a pet if some other player triggers the invisible mob. See this clip of my petless hunter in that cave - note the dead water elemental that probably caused it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvhYu0oARvQ

Thanks for posting that. That is really weird. It's nice to see what everyone is talking about.

Perhaps hunter pets taunt it drawing aggro but using any other AoE on a DK, Monk, Rogue, Warlock and Warrior was the only way I drew aggro from that invisible mob. Simply walking through that area will not cause aggro and every test I did I never got aggro using single target attacks. This was true even if I stood in the same spots that AoE effects did pull aggro.

I got killed by this on my (non Ironman) Arcane mage. No pet, no AOE. Bizarre.

I think it's best to just avoid the cave or stick to the entrance. There are Lurkers and Dredgers outside and at the entrance of the cave so you can at least complete 1 of the 3 quests without going inside, just might take a little longer to wait for respawns. I always see people going in and out of the cave when I'm there so it might be other players pulling aggro on the invis mob too. I mean, you can test it 99 times on a scout and be okay but of course all it takes is 1 time on your iron and splat! Not worth the XP and you can still finish the zone without doing it.

I'd just like to add another voice to the "just don't go there" camp - you only miss out on 2 quests, so it's not a big deal. I did go there recently and was able to bandage and run out while the invisible mob was "attacking" my pet but in hindsight it was completely silly of me to even risk it. It's not like there's a shortage of level 62-64 quests in Outland.

The bug doesn't seem to affect Rogues in the slightest (and Vanish is pretty good insurance). As a melee class, skipping quests is a bigger deal. Would recommend that warlocks and hunters stay out, though.
