Hi all,
Long time admirer of the Ironman challenge here. I've finally decided to take the plunge and make my first attempt!
I'll be posting a screenshot diary of milestones here, and will be streaming the whole journey live and archiving as VOD's on my YT channel.
If anyone has any pointers that might not be obvious to a long time WoW player (since 2005) but noobie Ironman challenger, please let me know.
All the best,
Redzy

Hey! Good luck in the challenge! As you're a long time wow player, there's not many tips to give, other than just read our tips and tricks subforum and get yourself comfortable in 24/7 stressful environment of Ironman Challenge!

The first steps of my journey have begun! Safely made it to level 14 on a Human Paladin. Looking forward to reaching the higher levels!

This is all about some luck and a lot of good decisions. You will make thousands and thousands of decisions from 1 to 110. If you make 99.9999% good decisions you lose. You can't make any mistakes. So be smart and alert the whole way. Ask questions or look up information on quests you aren't familiar with. Always have an escape plan.
Specifically for a paladin, once you get divine shield, set up a macro for divine shield and your hearthstone. If you only quest when those two aren't on cooldown, it's almost impossible to die on a pally. Key being you can't quest when either of those are on cooldown. And don't use any ability that gives you forbearance. Test the macro out while fighting a simple mob to make sure it works for you. If things ever look bad hit that macro and then wait to quest again until abilities are off cooldown.
Best of luck to you!!

Something like that did come across my mind Deidreven haha! It would be a lot easier to deal with the zero deaths rule following that, but it would also be a little less fun in terms of tense gameplay whilst leveling. I'll see how difficult things get during the later levels and might end up caving in to the bubble hearth lifestyle Thank you for the luck and the pointers on focusing on smart decisions!

My iron pally is currently level 98 and I've never used the bubble/hearth. Just nice to have something in mind for the "oh crap" moment you may have.

Good luck with your iron pally challenge! there are definitely occasional mobs or quests that are unexpectedly risky for iron characters so those resources are important. Also as I've learned several times, make sure you know where opposite faction camps are and avoid them - I got one-shotted in Andorhal and middle of Badlands by going a bit too close to a Horde camp. I'm on my 7th try with a dwarf pally, just hit 90 and wondering about Draenor. So far as prot pally I've gone to each expansion at that level, i.e. outland at 60 northrend at 70 hyjal at 80 and pandaria at 85 and not really struggled, although Pandaria mobs were getting harder towards end of Valley of the 4 winds. I suspect Draenor level 90 mobs will be a bigger challenge and the initial quest chain to get there could be very risky. That's where having another char at that level is useful to scout out and discover any fatal situations without losing your ironman unexpectedly. Dead irons make good scouts

Dead irons make good scouts Indeed they do! I recently scouted through the WoD intro as lvl 94 prot pally with no real bother. If you don't have a scout, I'd recommend you wait until at least 92 before risking it. There are plenty of Panda dailys available at that lvl with low risk.

Yeah... Turned out Halfhill dailies and clearing Dread Wastes still give full XP up to (at least) level 93 so doing that took me from 90 to 93 and at that level the Draenor intro was fairly easy.. and got me almost to 94.
