I'd say yes, it is. However:
I've also just started to do the challenge only for myself, as I found the various and ever growing rule-sets and additions and some sentiments here tedious and on occasion almost elitist; I just keep it simple as before, while adapting to the game changes. I want a challenge; not a frustrating work that makes me want to smash my PC. The game evolved greatly since the inception of wow iron-man. So still no dying, white or lower gear, no pots, etc.; but I pick up cooking and fishing and skinning as it makes sense to me as this solo-survivor thing (plus skinning grants no xp, since you got to kill the mobs first.) I use pots provided by quests if needed, and I do pick talents now. I just don't register the toon anymore, because I don't like being flagged for my choices that I have tried to argue are sensible, but were refused by most. So I went on my own. /shrug
To each his own. :]

I was here to argue to allow green gear, but then I thought about the green azerite gear I've gotten on my main, and I see there is a green man challenge now, so I've changed my mind on that. Something has to change though. The ironman challenge shouldn't be sitting and playing Plants vs Zombies for weeks on end. I vote for talents.

Talents won't change a thing - I tried using them and my power increase was about 5%. If you can't kill things without talents you won't be able to kill them with talents.
