I'm one of the crazy few (it seems) who bought a virtual ticket just to play Classic demo. It is tough! I have already been killed many, many times, even though you start out in + stats gear with no chance of substituting it. Lots of things are still missing with only Westfall/The Barrens to run around in and starting at level 15½. (you're given professions eg. all Pallys have mining/BS; no cooking, fishing or first aid (no trainers) - which I miss immensely as that was a big part of my pleasure in Vanilla). What are your take on Classic? My initial thoughts are: - Grey/white gear OK I suppose. BiS from vendors look OK, but can't be tried as vendors are otherwise engaged (not here). - Talents will be necessary to get past level 11 I forgot mine on the first toon, and died to 1 green mob. I will try once again without talents just to check this one out. - Everyone is buffing everyone, the no-buff-rule will be hard to uphold (as an eye on your buffs at all time can cost you your life). - No grouping or dungeoning is of course OK still.

I didn't buy the virtual ticket but played a few minutes at a friend's place, You have to relearn every single class Stone always say it's easier to forbid first and allow later, so I'd give it a try with no talent first. The buffing was probably because there was a lot of ppl in a small place, should eventually work itself out when all the world will be available

I tried a hunter with no tealents, and yes with very much care it IS possible. So I'm happy to be able to say NO to talents Having to re-learn is easy for me. I sill stop when shooting with my Hunter in BfA so it's for me "old habits die hard" Welcome back world of my "youth" The buffing was the way it was in Vanilla. Whenever you saw a Pally (I played a pally - still play him), you looked at his buff, and gave him the one he had not auto-cast, and s/he would reprocicate. Prisets and Druids did the same. Natural and normal behaviour way back then That will cause some problems.

I don't even look after buffs when I play, too busy watching my hp. They don't really matter...

While maybe not Ironman, I will definitly finally play my Naked Warrior. I did that a few times with more or less success.
"Naked" means really that: Naked. No gear at all, not even a weapon. And I choose Warrior because Casters aren't really impaired in their ability usage and most other classes don't have any damaging skills left without weapons. So that leaves the Warrior. I tried it a bit on live servers, I tried it a bit on private servers and I got really far during Cataclysm (level 56, just entered Swamps of Sorrow). But that was during Cata with the redone world and other things - like only 1 potion of each type and redone talent trees.
Except for no Gear I will allow everything else, because not having a weapon mans Thunderclap will be my strongest damaging skill and that barely does any. Considering how long it takes to level in Classic I am happy if I even reach max level on one character, which is why I will avoid Ironman like a plague for some time - I am not redoing ~4+ ingame days of playtime because I died to a mob in the level 30-50 range.

I do have a page up for Iron Classic already and basically just took the rules that we had at the end of Wrath & Cataclysm. It really wasn't until Warlords that we started getting into account-wide things and stuff. Some of the rules on the page still reference the current game (account-wide toys & mounts for instance) but those will change to more accurately reflect what we had back then. I will very likely be tracking a blood thirsty classic version as well, however, there are no plans for the other challenges. Tin & Green are more easily available to do as well as the Teams challenge. Pacifist is unfortunately left out as you cannot level "easily" through the normal means (no XP for mining and herbing, etc). wowchallenges.com/index.php?Show=IronClassic

Yes I discovered your updated rule page after writing here and I wholeheartedly agree. No need to slacken the rules, even if my poor Pally probably won't ever make it, I'm sure my Hunter will. My only misgiving is the buff-rule. As stated above everyone buffed all and sundry back in the old days, and when the Demo servers were populated - not heavily so, I never encountered Chromies debuff - it was that way again. Click off buffs when you see them is OK; but I won't kill myself looking for buffs when fighting.

After thinking and playing the first 20 or so levels as a Pacifist over and over again, today I reached a result. I'm not going to play a classic Ironman. At least not for a long time. There are too may things, I look forward to doing again. I look forward to having my fun while levelling, not level to have fun. Other thing I look forward to are fishing and cooking that really make a difference. Another more serious is the named gear. I am going to get, and equip. Ghoul fingers, Skarkskin, Brackclaw and all the others. I am going to play my old No-Die-style, that I invented back in 2008, but I am not going with the strict IMC rules. Sorry. Maybe when I have experienced all of Classic contents and lived out all my dreams, I'll return to IronmanChallenge, but the challenge was born from the need to have fun in the easy-peasy new WoW, and this won't be neccesary once Classic becomes available.

I will definitly still do my naked warrior at some point. Definitly not at release though. On one hand, I actually want to play classic normally as well. And on the other, everything will be crowded as hell. I am sure I won't get shit done without any gear.
Also, depending on how characters can be checked later (if they can be checked), there maybe could be a challenge between Ironman and Greenman. During Classic there were many merchants who sold green gear. If the things they sell are static, I would actually allow those. Those merchants are often somewhat hidden and not many slots are actually covered. But getting a green item here and there may actually be enough for some people who think Greenman is too easy but Ironman is still too hard.

Coming to my mind is the shield seller in the stable at Lake Everstill in Redridge Mountains.

And I am not even sure if all "hidden" merchants up to 60 had some green pieces. I remember several on the level 15-25 bracket selling stuff, especially in The Barrens. The Goblin patrolling between Ratchet and Crossroads or the Orc north near the harpies is still selling green stuff on live I think. But beyond that? Basically nothing. But I really can't remember if there was more stuff like this beyond level 30+ (and I am rather sure with TBC merchants no longer sold some random green pieces).

At least a quick search on Wowhead gave me nothing between 39-ish and 80. It looks a bit better for weapon.

... and boy are those shields expensive! I just looked at them today with my level 20 Pally - looked is the keyword here. I do not have insane amount like 60 or 74 silver to buy a shield ... But am I having fun? YES!
