from 81 to 85 i switched to a cat to increase my dps. for those critical few bosses, i brought my bear back out to tank. cat just can't hold aggro enough in those fights

My hunter ... Ironbelf ... just hit 48. Are you REALLY disqualified if you use a Noggenfoggers Elixir?
I mean ... it doesn't actually buff you far as I can tell ....

i am probally late to respond to all the hunter pets questions , but in my opinion the best tank pet is crock
the special ability is really great for aggro taking even on several mobs(cooldown is very low). this may be a life saver sometimes
i admid bear have there demo roar but i dont feel save with that because it can attack mobs that you dont want

Replying to myself from when I was starting out. I got my hunter up to 67 and died using mostly bear and cat. Next attempt and I am 70 now (as an orc) and I have been using a gorilla since 40 or so mainly for the spell interrupt. Not having an interrupt was the hardest thing so I was really happy to find a tenacity tank with an interrupt (gorilla pummel). For some fights I get out the bear and I almost never use a dps pet these days. Tank pet with interrupt is the best thing ever! Ironbaerd 70 hunter Greymane Ironhunt 67 hunter (dead)

Adding a further challenge to all you hunters out there: 1-85 using only the gear you have at level 1 (Yes iLevel of 2) I've made it to level 34 so far with only starter gear (my bow is 2.71 dps). NOTE: This may be a little more difficult now with 5.04, as pet armor has been set to the same as you... time will tell. Good luck fellow Ironmen!

After playing paladins for loong time (and still doing) I started a hunter. It's so easy, I decided to kick the challenge up a notch, and take up Lonewolf's challenge in a way; by being dressed in Festival dress, www.wowhead.com/item=21154 to go with the blood elf bandit mask I got in the beginner zone. She's still only lvl 8, so what the future will bring, I do not know. But it sure is a breeze after paladins. It might happen that I redo this decision later, but for now, That's what I'll do, but I want a bow to go with her outfit, and a matching pet as well. One of the red/yellow legged spiders from Bloodmyst should be just right. ETA: Now she has reached lvl 10, I added her to the ticker. Here's a link to Armory: eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/steamwheedle-cartel/Danni/advanced (Hope this works, as according to Blizz she's not yet 10). ETA: She's on page 43 of the challenges, as the newest 11'er.

Dear Lonewolf, if you -- like me on my irontoons -- hate getting honour for things not of your doing, then you should remove your title, "the Patient" from Sunryu I know it's not your fault, if you not actively choose "No Title" WoW chooses one, seemingly at random, for you.

Question for the hunters. Any1 else notice that your pet automatically has a spec now? Will this disqualify me later? I have tamed 2 new pets since the starter pet, and both times it already had a spec chosen for it. There's nothing i can do to control this, as blizzard has set this into motion.

I also noticed that. It seems that the web site doesn't keep track of that, so you won't get flagged for that. Xayatwefor wasn't flagged when she died at lvl 71
Xayatwefor lvl 71 hunter (dead) Xayatwesi lvl 30 monk (alive)

Well if you think about this, Blizzard made the pets with specs long before they had their own talent point, MoP just made it so they cause just change spec now. It wouldn't be fair to disqualify you based on something that blizzard changed. Hunters should defiantly become the easiest class to level now. shoot & pet assist, watch him kill your enemies.
If you wanted to make it harder, try disabling the auto cast buttons for your pet, minus growl. Wasn't it back in the day pets had growl, scratch, bite and one special ability? (I could be wrong about this). that could even things out a bit

Another difference between MoP & Cata is that Kill Command is no longer trainable as a baseline ability. I suppose it makes things easier though, since I am now just spamming Arcane shot the entire fight.

Patch 5.4 alters many abilities in small ways, significantly Arcane Shot costs more, but we can balance for that. Of much greater importance is that Preparation is removed entirely. It used to be a cooldown-beater, or a 2nd chance for FD. I will miss that, but must accept it passing.
For a challenge, I have begun making IMC Hunters that abandon their pet at level 10, and never train another one. My latest, Nopet on WRA, reached level 44 before dying to Isha Grimtotem in 1kN. I'm glad that Armory even tracks that I have no hunter pets, even stabled. Without a pet, you're much more dependent on situational awareness to be able to 1-trick pony with concussion shot kiting, or taking some hits point-blank and bandaging up afterward. Since the removal of minimum range restrictions, this balances hunters more towards warriors, although I've never attempted a warrior IMC.
I think that I'll bypass that half of 1kN next time w/o pet, as killing the bosses there was a challenge even with a pet. When the warrior companion with you dies, boss is on you hitting for over 1k. I guess that maybe badlands (or something else) could patch-fill my normal path until I'm ready for Tanaris, but haven't examined it yet.
Also, to chime in on what pet works for me (when I use one), I like a hyena for the haste boost, and turtles for a backup defensive pet for bosses or AE challenges. Since we IMC's don't have much stats to modify in the first place, I find the 10% haste more consistent a benefit than the 5% critical from wolves.

I'd really love to do the challenge as a warrior but since no one has, I'm starting with a hunter. Hunter seems best suited to this challenge.
