Hi there! There's a guild on Antonidas (Peace Corps) who does this very thing. We currently have 2 level 90's I believe. It takes a LONG time but can be something different and fun to do. It IS a challenge. Depending on the zones there are either a lot of non-killing quests or only a few. I currently have a level 28 NE druid. I found the best place to herb and mine starting out (yes we do gathering professions) is in the Gnome starting area. Only two areas w/hostile mobs but can easily avoid them and still get to plenty of nodes to get you leveled up. (I will restate...this takes a very long time. That being said I know there was a Tauren druid who leveled a pacifist toon to 90, and he did no quests (just gathering and exploring). I have done quite a few quests and don't think I'd have the patience to do none. ;-) But to each his own. Although you won't be able to enter THIS ironman challenge, I think it's a worthy challenge to take up, and my hat is off to you for attempting. It is not as easy as people may assume. I've worked many hours on it and am only level 28. It is definitely not without many risks. Good luck! *Note: I am breaking two rules: no guild (& perks) and no professions (-->gathering). (I am not claiming to be doing an ironman pacifist.) I enjoy the social aspect of the guild while we work toward a common goal. (Some are allowing death, but I am not. I'm perma-death and no kills...or I re-roll). **Iarnaig --- That's a definite benefit (gold)! I am planning on using all of my gold to buy mounts, etc that I don't have yet on my toons. So far, she's making gold hand over fist.

If Pet battles are allowed, this will be a breeze. 10 battles at level 7 23 at level 53 will take you to next level. The only problem is the start cost - first pet costs like 50 s, but if you time with Darkmoon Faire and you being level 6, then money's not the problem. I feel Pet Battles to be cheating. Cross posting from Pet battle thread: At level 7 9 pet battles in Elwynn Forest took me to level 8. No danger, no toil, maybe 20 minutes time, most of it spent looking for a new pet and avoiding combat with mobs.

Hello, The Pacifist's way is an interesting concept. Since it looks like a laborious challenge with lots of time needed, I first thought, I will give it a try in combination with Ironman-ultra-lite, i.e. no-death rule only, but no other limitations. Then I started yesterday my Kaldorei priestess named "Sidhien" on "Die Aldor" (german RP-PVE realm) and i took me a "nice" journey from Darnassus to Ironforge via Exodar and Stormwind, just to become lvl2. The good news in the end was that I had enough coppers to learn mining and herbalism... ;D Well, now I think I'll give it a try with full Ironman rule set, except for the professions limitation. I wanted to learn fishing and cooking for that daily little xp boost and the gathering professions mining, herbalism and archeology for constant xp gain. While considering pet-battles as xp-source, I noticed that pet-battles also include killing (tiny) creatures, as well as fishing and cooking (indirectly only, but still), so I decided to do my way using the gathering professions only in order to not harm any creatures. Now I have a little question: If I register young Sidhien on the Ironman page (if she makes it to lvl10 that is ) she will be flagged because of the professions learned. The question is, what happens next. Does the character remain on the "Current Challengers" page, just flagged but otherwise updating as usual, or will the character be transferred to the "Honored Dead" page? Thanks a lot in advance, if someone knows the answer and lots of safe travelling to all the Pacifists out there!

Looks like Ferrestella's young pacifist druid is showing like normal, just with a ! flag next to its name, so it seems pacifists work on the leaderboard alright. Mine will I assume be the same when armory catches up to the fact that I'm lvl 10...

As long as your character has not died, it will show up, but either with a yellow ! or a red X. I can't find casa's explanation of his points system.

Oh, very nice. Thanks a lot for the information! ;D Wish you safe paths to your Ironman Challengers. PS: Oh, and congratulations to lvl 10!

Well well, Now I'm pis...erm...angry. Sidhien made it happily - even if terribly slowly - to lvl8 and while collecting herbs in Dun Morogh got to the Dwarven encampement at Helm's Bed Lake. Seargent Bahrum offered the quest "Entombed in Ice". The goal is to free six Mountaineers, who are frozen in big pieces of ice. While I didn't see any killing involved, I freed the first Mountaineer using Smite to destroy the piece of ice that held the Mountaineer captive. Accidentally I checked the Statistics page in Achievements. What a surprise! It showed now 1 creature killed. To check the mechanics I freed another Mountaineer and now have 2 creatures "killed" on the Statistics page. I don't actually see, what "creature" was killed while dissolving a piece of ice... So my advice for other Pacifists out there is: Stay away from this Quest! I'm not sure, if I will go on with the Pacifist-experiment after this kind of experience...it's kind of worse than to see an Ironman dying out of stupidity, which I know from several experiences...

Eek, that sucks! Thanks for the warning though, hopefully that saves a few of us going down the same route. I'm personally doing no quests which incolve even damaging something; I'll loot items, but nothing which involves using my damage abilities (which aren't even on my actionbars to prevent accidents), having heard your experience I'll stick with that I think and not even do the freeing people from spider web quests, in case those are the same!

This looks quite interesting - I may give it a go too! However, I don't think I could (or would?) do it the ironman-way... I like challenges for sure, but ironman pacifist just sounds like the most grueling time sink, ever! ;-) Rather, I would probably do it in a way so I get the "opposite" experience of what I just got from leveling my ironman, Ke. On her, I have really missed guildies, fishing, archy etc. - and even pet battles. She did a few of those, but after they gave xp, it sort of felt like cheating. -But she has a kill-count that is second to none! So, I'll turn it upside-down - do all the stuff I missed on Ke, but not the killing. That could be fun - and an entirely different experience for sure So... night elf for sure (almost all my chars are, anyway - I am an afk-player, so no shadowmelt = LOTS of deaths), but priest or druid?? Druid sounds best for this, but I have quite a few of those already - but no priests. But that also means I have NO clue how to play priest in any shape or form ofc. Hmm, I will have to consider that.

Well, well, well, After calming down a bit, I decided to give it another try with a slightly different personal ruleset: 1. No killing, erm damaging neither, not even dead stuff, you never know! 2. All Ironman-rules except professions limitation I.e. I will learn fishing and cooking as well at lvl5 to be able to do some of the daylies, in particular those, that don't involve killing something or fishing something. The ones like collecting Kumchi (or whatever) pots in Darnassus or distributing meal for the guards. Don't remember right now, if there are fishing daylies without fishing at all I will stay away from pet battles, even though its possible to catch the pet instead of killing it. At least if there is only one "enemy" pet involved i think. I think that could still reflect the pacifist idea By the way, i also did not have my damaging abilities, on my action bar as a precaution. But hey! What can be killed by melting an ice block? *tries to catch the programmers head and nicely hit it several times on a table desk* ;D As Iarnaig said, probably best is to stay away from quests with damaging tasks at all. Maybe the chains that hold the prisoners are somehow creatures too... Sometimes I really have the impression, the development staff is smoking real bad weed...not the good one, that you get from the friendly Troll in the neighborhood. Or as we Kezanians use to say: A Kaja-cola a day, keeps the bullshit away! In this spirit: Safe travelling to all the Pacifists and may the Kaja-cola be with you!

Reading this excited me, and I'm glad to have stopped by the board after a couple of months' grumpy absence. I'm finally over the quad of lvl 58-61 deaths within lunar festival week (only two were holiday related), and willing to pop my head out of my shell for a bit. I missed you guys.
I've picked this up also, as an even-more-intense ironman challenge. On my first try, I died before level 2. That was certainly the first time I'd ever done that. More cautiously, I started over and made it to level 5 without any gathering skills. It's so strange that rest exp means nothing when you're not killing anything.
Though I am very unfamiliar with the alliance, I still chose a night elf druid for the clear safety benefits. I just couldn't find anything comparable in the horde races for a pacifist. I haven't played ally characters since pre-cata, so even Stormwind is a new learning experience for me.
Agreed that moving harmful buttons off your hotbar is good. I made buttons 1, 2, 3, and 4 all Shadowmeld, heh. I also went and sold my noob staff, for a whole 4 copper. I run around unarmed, fittingly.
At some point, I realize that my druid crowd control spells will cause some damage, so I will have to wield them carefully, and clear agro quickly afterwards. Does /reload do the same as /camp and returning for clearing agro credit? I just don't know how well that will work out, with sleep and entangling roots and.. ok, I am unfamiliar with druids, too. Likewise, haven't played my normal druid since pre-cata. Alternately, is it reasonable to have no kill shots, and very minimal actual kill credits? Just a thought, and either way wouldn't expect the IMC tracker to adapt.
My rules, so far, (and not fixed until permanently chosen otherwise): * IMC rules, with open AH. So far, AH is unused. * No kills. * So far, no Pet Battles because I couldn't afford a starter pet. * So far, no primary professions, including gathering skills. That may have to go, but I don't know. * Fishing is allowed, explained below. I simply enjoy to fish. * So far, still no cooking.
I'm doing this similar to other ironman fishers I've had, except that dailies will be allowed as long as I don't have to kill something in combat. I'm totally unfamiliar with ally fishing dailies. At level 5, I still can't afford to raise my skill cap over 150, because I haven't actually sold anything on the AH. I'm considering a twist of outlawing the AH to sell fished goods, but allowing it to purchase armor, because I can't get drops without kills. Note for others: you can't learn fishing until level 5, and can't do the dailies until level 10. I assume the same applies for cooking.
My other iron-fishermen (Gonefishing, HD at 61, and one other) followed the following rule subset: * Use no fishing poles, and no bait. I did every fishing quest, though, and kept the poles in the bank. * No dailies. * Had to fish something from every fishable body of water ever explored. A lot of marsh areas are un-fishable. (This will be harder, if excusable, when unable to clear a safe area.) * Had to fish out every 'spot' that I found. Sometimes this led me to a chain of spots down a coastline, but I allowed for it. This was more time consuming once I earned Track Fish in Stranglethorn. (Again, I may give this one up for a pacifist.)
I'm on the fence about pet battles, so haven't done any yet. I feel that as a pacifist ironman, undergoing some risk for pet battles without clearing an area is nearly the same as the risk involved with gathering skills (that I haven't accepted). For the morality argument, I've already went with "it's ok to eat fish, 'cause they dont have any feelings," so I'm only concerned with what the statistics will count as kills. It would be up to my own discretion and honor to have separate pets, and to not just roll over low pets in easy areas forever. Hunting pets would still be a worthwhile part of this, if I restricted it to have the local mobs around a battle-pet leveled at least green to me. That would keep me on my toes, at least. I've yet to decide personally about this, but will have resources to begin after the April Darkmoon Faire.
I really appreciate Kyrie's comments about it taking a long long time, to set reasonable expectations. Extreme patience will be reserved for this extreme ironman challenge.
Edit: No more! I did this up to level 6, and decided after one level of experience from pet battles that I wasn't going to continue in that manner. It was not enjoyable after a while, but was an interesting diversion. I won't be returning to Pacifist challenge, but I wish the best of patience and luck to those who choose this.

Well, well, well, Now I am OFFICIALLY PISSED! Erm...to put it in civilised words: Stay away from the Quest "Murder was the case that they gave me". Its a quest in Westfall from the questgiver Lieutenant Horatio Lane, where you have to get 4 clues from the "homeless Stormwind citizens" in a field nearby the Furlbrow homicide. Rainendur accepted the quest, because I knew that you either get the clue for some copper or the homless Citizen NPC will attack instead. Put my shield on to be save and gave some coppers to the NPC. That silly guy attacked Rainendur and Rainendur fled as planned. BUT: There is a bug...a real bad, nasty bug, since you apparently NEVER loose aggro from that NPC. I only noticed this when that silly hobo followed Rainendur from Wesfall and on and on. No big problem I thought...just keep on running and use your shield. My idea was to try what happens if Rainendur zones. So he kept running to Goldshire and on to Stormwind with the intention to use the tunnel to the underground Deeprun tram to zone. Well, it must have looked quite funny while that NPC followed Rainendur the whole way to Stormwind and when we reached the Trade District some other player just killed the homeless hobo behind me. AND NOW: guess who was awarded the Kill? Rainendur! OMFG! Even if there was absolutely no autoattack from Rainendur or any other harmfull action...Rainendur has now 1 Kill and NO Killing Blow in the Statistics of the Achievements. I even made some screenshots including the Combat chat window to prove that another player killed the NPC. Now thats exactely the way to make a peacefull priest turn into a terribly angry worlddestroyer. I have absolutely no clue at all, how brainless one must be to program such a piece of shitcode. I became quite familiar with Rainendur during his 16 levels and actually think that I will not reroll again. I don't really want to ruin my day again by completely silly bugs and idiotical programming... I hope the young Kaldorei finds his mental balance again after some time spent at the Moonwells of Teldrassil.

I had had these hoboes follow me as far as Goldshire and be killed by somebody there, but never giving me the dubious honour of having killed them. What a stupid bug Maybe it was the "another player killed him" stuff. Send a bug reprot to Blizzard, or ratehr a ticket. The bug with them not loosing aggro is bad enough. But this is downrigth evil. BTW the hoboes seems to sometimes drop aggro if you cross the river by going into it, not by the bridge, or if you leave the roads. I should have written this tidbit in a post. Sorry.

Damn, that sucks! Note to self: skip that quest.
As for the coding, I can see how it worked; since you interacted with the mob and made it aggressive, I guess it would tag to you (as with summonable mobs and the like, to stop other people ninja tagging your mob), so, someone kills it, you get credit. So I guess be very very wary of mobs that have some form of interaction before turning aggressive, as they may be tagged to you.

Hello again! ;D After letting Rainendur find his (mine) mental balance again, I decided that Rainendur will go on with the Pacifist-Challenge as a "quest-scout". One reason is, that I'm curious, whether there are more of those quests that somehow work against common sense and should be avoided by Pacifist-Ironmen because they award you kills while melting iceblocks (Dun Morogh) or just simply are bugged like the one in Westfall. The other reason is personal, for I don't want to let Rainendur die after so many hours of overcautious levelling, since we somehow became "friends". Now before going on, I checked Rainendur's Armory data to be sure he has still his funny status of 1 creature killed and 0 killing blows. Big surprise! Caught completely off guard I discovered that Rainendur's Statistics show "additional" 22 honorable kills! Well fact is that I never do PVP, since I don't like this gear-dependent approach from Blizzard at all. I probably have duelled less than 10 times since WoW-Beta... and can't even remember, if I ever entered a BG...if so then by accident most likely. Now my question is: where are these honorable kills from? As just mentioned I have almost no idea about the PVP mechanics and would be very happy, if some PVP-aficionado could explain those figures to me. Is it maybe because of accountwide achievements and has nothing to do with Rainendur or did he run through an open PVP area or something...I'm lost here. Thank you very much in advance and let the good spirit lead you whether as Ironmen or Pacifists... ;D
