I had decided to retire my Pally at level 65 because of the nerf to insight. Then the bug bit me & I decided to see how far I could bring her.
At 65, I finally entered Hellfire. I was literally shocked that I could do all of hfp that my hunter had done with the exception of 2 quests I opted out of. I didn't do the rock giants. They hit pretty hard & spawn 2 adds. The other quest I chose not to do is the orb drop quest from one of the bird boss mobs. But looking back, I'm pretty sure I could have done him too, just kite him away a bit. I was initially afraid of getting agro from close mobs, but there was a spot I'm pretty sure would have worked. Also killing the air elemental for the quest worried me some as Pally kills so slowly that I was afraid of spawns.
Zangarmarsh presented little problems as well. I didn't go in that dreadful cave that has phantom mob in it, so I didn't get the belongings and the boss. The boss had me pretty scared as I have never been able to pull him without also getting the two adds near him. They also have a very short spawn timer, and I'm pretty sure they would have spawned before I was done. I had a very close call here. I forgot Count Dracula was a mana eater, so I wasn't prepared by saving up holy power & whacking him with the extra mana. Instead, he ate it all. Was a dreadfully long & scary fight. Used naaru 3 times. My icon started flashing red just as I hit lay on hands.
Nagrand is a sort of rest before the storm. I didn't do durn because he pats in congested areas. He also has a nasty knock back making the risk of adds higher than I was willing to accept. Not sure if his hp are higher, but he has always seemed to be a little more difficult to bring down. Otherwise, I was able to do all that I normally do, which is everything other than the ring of blood quests and the one boss that takes skull drops to summon. I never do him. Too many bad memories in bc, and of course the group quest that still exist there.
And a storm Netherstorm was. The first quest i did there was the mana worms. So not fair that they eat what little mana I have. Same with the core hounds and the stingray looking mobs. Oh, and the air elemental guys and the ghost looking guys, they eat mana too. It seems most mobs in Netherstorm eat mana The only thing I could do was to blow through all my mana hitting them for everything I had as quickly as possible. That worked fairly well until I had one re-spawn, I swear, before I had finished killing it. It spawned exactly in the same spot where I was already engaged in battle. So then I had 2 beating on me & no mana. It was a very long and scary fight, one in which I almost lost. The other fight I almost lost is when I started the fight without mana as I had forgotten to drink. Did I mention it's kill, drink, kill, drink, rinse & repeat? All Belf areas were very very dangerous and scary. The only thing that saved me in these areas were my aggro range as I was 74 while here. So many mana eaters, fast spawning mobs & many pats make this area a nightmare. Somewhere here I dinged 75 & decided Northrend was a much safer place to be.
OK, so both start zones in Northrend are scary places. One type of mob tried to eat my mana too. This is where I really started missing Kyrie. She's been through Northrend, albeit in the pre-nerfed state. But she at least knows the stress I'm enduring and the quests that had given her difficulties. (Kyrie, where are you? My heart longs to be with someone who is going through the same thing I am. To laugh, to cry, to share together)
Playing pally is so stressful now that I literally get a headache while playing. What makes it especially stressful is knowing this is my last chance pally. It isn't like my hunter where when I died I dusted myself off & started anew. Pallies were tough before, now they are exceedingly tough. Without mana from seal of insight, we are forced to pretty much auto attack, save our mana for one crusader strike to use one word of glory when our hp starts going down too much. It takes all my mana to kill the mob, which means if I get an add, there will be no heals. I save naaru and lay on hands incase an add shows up or in the situations where the mob I need to kill comes in 2's. I have to be wise in my use of lay on hands because I just may very well need to bubble & run instead. And it's one or the other.
I decided to level my dead iron pally to keep up with my good iron. Any questionable quests & I'll have my dead iron try it out first. Having never gotten a pally this high before, I'm not entirely sure of her limitations. I duel spec'd dead iron so I could kill faster to keep up & I can even run dungeons. I only use her iron spec & gear when I need to test something out first. This makes leveling go a lot more slowly. Although I know the quests as a hunter, I don't as a pally. What's sad is my dead iron is getting the better gear that my good iron isn't. I do compensate for gear & luck by using dead pally a level lower. So if a 79 can do it, surely an 80 can too.
I stayed in hf & bt until I was 80 and the quests turned gray. Even before the quests turn gray, the mobs become too low to give me xp. So long as the quests are green, I continue to work on them anyway as I expect not to be able to do quests that I have done on my hunter.
Had a very close call that got my heart pounding & my nerves shaking. Needed to kill Wind Trader Mu'fah for a drop. He comes with a side kick. I decided to pull him inside the building & fight him there. Either he or his side kick had a knock back that I wasn't aware of & he knocked me off. Lucky for me I landed on an edge instead of being knocked all the off. And even luckier, as I was falling, a 2 mob pat walked by. Had I not been knocked off, I surely would have died as there is no way I can handle 4 mobs when I can barely handle 2 mobs that are 8 levels lower than I am.
I had another close call doing the pup daily in dragonblight. Who says dailies are safe?? Not always. I've died twice doing dailies & this was almost my 3rd time. That ex-elite showed up while I was collecting pups. It seemed that no matter which direction I went, that was his pat. The only thing that saved me is I am 80, so I have a very nice aggro range. But still, my heart is beating too quickly & my nerves are shot. Kyrie, where are you, I need a kindred spirit.
