Having just found out about this challenge within the last few days, I decided to give it a go. After watching a few youtube videos and reading some of the posts here I have gone with a Night Elf Druid on Dath'Remar (Oceanic). So far I'm liking both the challenge and the Druid as I haven't played through a Druid of yet and to me it seemed a good choice with the different animal forms allowing for more damage or more stamina and armor should the need arise.
In saying all of this, are there any tricks and tips I should know of at all to help get as far as I can whilst also enjoying this challenge?
Also, what are the benefits of being in a guild while doing this challenge?

So, I can't help at all with combat as my druid is a pacifist, but I can help with tips on how to run away effectively.
First off. A lot of animal abilities can be cast as a caster and will immediately shift you into that form. This can be useful to skip the stage of having to push the cat form button if you want to stealth. I can't say which ones would be useful for combat, however, I would say that even a fighty druid would want Dash and Stealth on all your toolbars, even your Night Elf and Bear ones. If you cast those abilities, it will immediately put you into cat form and stealth you. If you pushed dash it will put you into cat and cast dash. This is one less button push. You can also put caster abilities in cat and bear forms, allowing you say, cast rejuvenation without having to manually break cat form.
I would recommend having these five buttons on all your toolbars, or on one of you toolbars that does not change when you switch forms, preferably in the same place so you do not get confused: Dash, Prowl, Rejuvenate, Entangling roots, and Shadowmeld. As a combat druid you might have more, but these will be your panic buttons. You will want to know where they are at all times.
Shadowmeld can be used in combat to get out of combat. However if you move it will break shadowmeld. If you cast cat it will break shadowmeld. So, how do you go from Shadowmeld to stealth if you aren't in cat? Like say you were in bear but got too many enemies hitting you and you want to run away? If you have prowl on all your toolbars, or on one of the toolbars that doesn't change, you will go straight from shadowmeld to stealth without breaking shadowmeld. You could also go cat to shadowmeld to stealth, but that is one extra button which mean you might take one or two extra hits which could be the difference between life and death.
I found cat or travel form is best for running away since they have increased movement speed. Bear has more armor, but if I'm moving fast enough the enemies can't even reach me to hit me. Also, if you get snared or webbed, switch forms, it will break the snare. However, switching forms does not get rid of dazed. Dash is also very useful for running away. If going the run away route as opposed to the stealth escape, cast renew before you dash, it should allow you to take a couple more hits. Also, dash does not go away if you leave cat form, you just do not get the speed boost. So, you could cast dash, realize you need heals so you cast rejuvenate then return to cat form and keep running.
Entangling roots is very useful for keeping enemies from hitting you. Also, if only one enemy is chasing you, you can cast entangling roots and run away. Enemies seem to lose interest in you faster when they are rooted.
Know where all the exits are. If you get into trouble, you will want to be able to run to someplace safe. Keep an eye out for patrols. If there are abnormally few enemies, someone probably just killed them all and if you are unlucky they will all spawn at once, so watch out.

Benefit of a guild is social only, having folks around to chat with. Easy access to people to ask questions and get answers, or just idle chit chat. Even if you don't participate, just reading the banter can make the experience more enjoyable.
One note about Shadowmeld. If you are going to use it, first run to someplace a little out of the way. Nothing worse than Shadowmelding only to have the mob release from combat only to walk right over you and break the stealth.
