a little gray area. Many irons do get the gold, some consider it as 'help from another player' and as such do not

Yep, I don't use them, but I'm playing a stricter personal interpretation of the rules and exclude a few things which are allowed. I'd say it's in the same category as selling on the AH really, relies on another player to place the Blingtron/buy your auction, but the only gain is gold (I don't think you get exp from the quest?), so it's ok if you're ok with that

There's no exp reward, just a package that contains things you can sell. Not excluded by the rules, only by choices.
It does count as a quest though, against the Blood Thirsty players. One of mine had clicked a blingtron out of habit, then realized my mistake.

Blings are great for newer irons in the 1-20 range (beats farming a stack of Small Eggs to put on the AH).... After awhile, the 50silver or 1gold it dispenses doesn't make much difference to an iron...
So no hard rule against it, but like Iarnaig says, up to you and your play style. Before level 20, seems like if a guildie announced a fresh Bling in SW, I'd rush over to get it... Not any more.

You can get - I did - Blingtron heart or some such, that sells for 75 G. No monetsry trouble in the forseeable future

It's especially great for a pacifist. Since you can't even afford shoe laces at the start
