Update: I locked my warrior's XP at level 60. I've decided to get Loremaster of Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms before moving to Outland. Still a far way off from these achievments, but I've been doing more exploring; going out of my way to check out random buildings or other things I see in the distance, or looking at the random items scattered about. The detail in the engineering hut in Ratchet is pretty good. And I've found quite a few NPCs just chillin at the top of mountains. I've also started reading any of the in-game books I come across. Fun side note: if you go to- I think it's Elder Rise in Thunder Bluff, there are a bunch of hanging scrolls that tell about the Tauren people's An'she and Mu'sha - their sun and moon deities. I have managed to replace all my starter Mag'har gear. Most of it's blue quest gear, but I've got a couple rep pieces and some found items. I was really excited the other day when I did the Waptor Twapping quest in the Barrens and it Warforged into a blue item. It was a big upgrade for me. Haven't gotten any trinkets yet, but I'm sure I'll come across them eventually. I tried the Fishing Tournament yesterday. I want to get the trinket that turns you into a fish. I managed to get 13 Tasty Fish before it ended. Which I considered kind of a win. I'm saving my first mount skill until Outland, so I was on foot running along the coast competing against players with flying mounts. So 13 wasn't too bad.
Still have yet to use my hearthstone. I also sort of changed the rules for the bind location, where it has to be for a major faction city. But that's easy to enforce when I don't use the thing, so...
I've not done any dungeons yet, either. I'll probably save them for last.
I just realized that the wording for the flightpath restrictions is a little confusing. Any faction capital (Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff, Dalaran, etc.) and any port that has boat or zepplin access is allowed. Then, on top of that, you can have one flightpath per Vanilla zone, and two flightpaths per zone in Outland, Northrend, etc.
There's a bit of a gap in activity because I've been leveling a Zandalari Paladin.

Another problem is when you remove the item, there is the stats of green items equipped that does not comes down (number of slots where a green item has been equipped). So ppl could play in full green, put those lvl 1 items just before logging out, and they would not be flagged
Xayallennah lvl 87 gnome hunter (dead) Wyrmrest Accord Xayagilleth lvl 106 greenman worgen hunter (alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayapaci lvl 77 pacifist gnome rogue (alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayabara lvl 50 bloodthirsty draenai hunter (alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayabow lvl 120 tinman nightelf hunter (41 deaths) Wyrmrest Accord
Ah, had not thought of that. Hmm, yeah, cuz then for it to work you would have to say: okay all these tabards and such are okay - yeah, too many exceptions. That sucks, though.

There was exception a few years ago, but the list was getting so long it was getting out of hand. So by making no exception on green gear the code is a lot cleaner, and has not to be adjusted everytime Blizz changes something on their side
Xayallennah lvl 87 gnome hunter (dead) Wyrmrest Accord Xayagilleth lvl 105 greenman worgen hunter (alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayapaci lvl 77 pacifist gnome rogue (alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayabara lvl 49 bloodthirsty draenai hunter (alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayabow lvl 120 tinman nightelf hunter (41 deaths) Wyrmrest Accord
Right. What I'm asking is if it would be possible to add a line (or so) that simply allows all items with an item level of 1? Something like:
local _, _, _, ilvl = GetItemInfo(itemLink)
if ilvl > 1,
then (check item quality) else return
This would check the quality of the item, but not flag any item with and ilvl==1.

Would it be possible to add an exception for items with an item level of 1? The shirts, tabards, etc. all have ilvl=1. I did a Wowhead search for green, blue, and purple quality items with an item level of 1.Other than a couple tabards that have teleports (with long cooldowns), I couldn't find anything that gives an unfair advantage to the player by using, or would even be possible for an Ironman character to obtain. Admittedly, I don't know enough about how the exceptions are coded to know how difficult this would be to implement. But making one exception for a blanket item level = 1 items, seems a lot easier than making individual exceptions for all these items.

Update on challenge character:
I've gotten to level 59 on my arms warrior, Zihruk. I've yet to do any dungeons, so my gear has been coming from blue quest gear, professions, reputation, or world found. I also added that he could only use 2H Axes. I still have some gear pieces from the starter Mag'har set.
It's been really fun. I recently got a Spyglass off the AH, and it's been really cool to trek up a hill and look around for where I need to be going for the quests.
I've yet to use my hearthstone either. The restriction on flightpaths is more challenging in certain zones. I chose Krom'gar Fortress in Stonetalon as my one flight point. That zone can take some traveling, especially when you're having to run through it to get to other zones.
I'm considering going for loremaster before moving onto Outland. If I do that, I think I'll save the mount until I get to BC.
As far as UI; using the Immersion UI is really nice. It hides the player & target frame, gives a compass, and reduces the alpha of the action bars. So I'm currently using: Immersion, Immersion UI, Classic Quest Text, and Auctionator. Since the changes to the API, I can't find a way to hide the player arrow on the main map. Still looking, but I think they removed that functionality.

I wanted to create a challenge to slow the game down and make exploration and questing the main focus. This is called the Warrior of the Horde Challenge only because I'm trying it with a new Mag'har Orc Warrior. I suppose you could call it a Vanilla Challenge also.
Limited flightpaths: - Only one main city in each old world zone (this excludes major faction cities)
- Only two main cities in each Burning Crusade or higher zone
Limited Hearthstone use: - Hearthstone can only be used once every 12 hours
Limited portal use: - Only to be used when there is no boat, zepplin (airship), or flightpath to get to the destination
Mount restrictions: - Apprentice Riding at level 60
- Journeyman Riding at level 70
- Expert Riding at level 80
Limited mount use: - Flying mounts are only to be used to reach quest or dungeon and raid areas that cannot be traveled to by a ground mount (and only to reach the area)
Gear restrictions: - Only rare (blue) quality quest rewards can be equipped
- Any gear quality found out in the world can be equipped
- Any gear made available through reputation can be equipped
- All dungeon and raid gear can be equipped
Limited map use: - Only the world map can be used (minimap hidden - MoveAnything addon)
- No quest objectives shown on the world map (ClassicQuestText addon)
Limited LFG and LFR use: - Can only use the LFG or LFR finder once every two hours
I know a lot of this is managing your own extended cooldowns and cannot be tracked in any way. So far, I'm having a really fun time leveling in Stonetalon Mountains. Not having access to a ground mount makes it so that you have time to think about the quest you picked up. And since there is no minimap, you're looking more into the distance for your quest objectives and areas. I've done old world zones so many times I know where all the quest areas are located- or so I thought. I've noticed that instead of constantly looking at my minimap and opening my main map, I'm looking at my surroundings and taking in more of the world. You actually need to pay attention to where you're going so you can get back. Not having the luxury of constant hearthstone use, makes it so the world feels more dangerous again. You go to the back of that cave, you have to get yourself back out. I tried to keep in mind higher zones when making this challenge. I might have to change things around a little if the mount restrictions don't allow you access to content.

I wasn't trying to fight the elites. The distract ability you get from the camouflage kit has a chance to backfire - and it did. Two elites and a dragon were not fooled by my little distraction. The three of them took out my shield and half my health in one hit. And since you don't actually kill the mobs for that quest, there's nowhere to run. I'm debating whether or not to simply delete the character and start again, or keep him for a scout. As for the warrior, that ice troll is going down. I was waiting until level 8 to get execute, but had forgotten that the starter zone doesn't scale. Edit: Nevermind on Execute, you have to have a melee weapon. But I got to level 10 and switched to Prot. Now I just need 14 to get Thunderclap.

Just a quick reminder about the quest Prisoners of War in Redridge Mountains: the distraction ability can backfire and draw the attention of the elites instead!

I managed to get my naked Ironman priest to 30. I died yesterday when the distraction from the quest in Redridge backfired and drew their attention instead. Three elites and a dragon took great interest in me. On the plus side, I know it's possible to do the bravo company quests leading up to that point. At least on a priest. A combination of shield, instant heal, and psychic scream can get you pretty far.
I've also started a naked warrior. He's only level 7 or so. Had to skip the ice troll in the starter zone, but the other quests haven't been too bad yet.

Hm, yeah, Tinman doesn't allow green gear. (Note to self: read rules) Hahaha
I like the idea of a separate challenge. I think adding talents to the Ironman challenge would take away the legacy of the challenge. When it was first started, leveling was a lot harder than it is now, and people still managed to do it. I don't want it to become something where one concession is made, and then down the line people can argue, "oh, but you changed this when such and such came out." It just snowballs from there. But, again, I'm all for a separate challenge.
As far as talents go, Tinman does allow that. Worth a try, if that's what you're looking for.

Don't we already have a challenge where you can use green gear? Isn't that what Tinman is for?

It was much harder than this.

In Loch Modan:
When fighting Gor'Kresh, he does an ability that looks like purple smoke. If your graphics card has issues with smoke or high particle rendering, this fight is really laggy. He also has a knockback ability. I don't think I'd have survived without Power Word: Shield and Flash Heal.
Also, when flying the Protostrider for the last quest in the zone, I aggro'd a kobold and a spider when I was about to land at the northern station. Guards didn't help with the mobs.

For quest items, the maximum you could equip at once would be 8 (8 possible seen on character slots), but maybe limit it to a max of 5 or 3, so that there would still need to be a trade-off when choosing gear.
For the BoEs, you could roll to see if you can equip immediately, or if not immediately, then it gets grouped into the quest items at the end of the zone. For BoEs you can't use, you could still use those as Jokers, but limit the use of Jokers to 1 or 2 a zone.
And yes, professions definitely need overhauled! Hopefully that will be something they take a look at after they've got the level scaling all sorted.
