Has anyone been successful getting through the starting zone with no gear equipped? I've tried three times, dying almost immediately the first two attempts. The third attempt, I actually left my weapons equipped and got about halfway through before dying. It's really frustrating not being able to delete these characters without going through the whole zone!

I agree that it sucks not being able to delete the character unless it's fully played through... at least DKs you can access a mailbox after ~10 quests or so (maybe less).
From what I understood folks were able to submit tickets to have their DKs deleted.... I'm going to try to do the same with my test Demon Hunter and see what happens.

Would we be flagged for leaving the starting weapons equipped?

yes and no. DHs are not going to be on any of the main lists, especially due to that gear, starting at level 98 and then having two blues force equipped at the end.
Still gotta take it all off.

Demon Hunters are impossible, there are no weapon drops in the zone, so all you can do is rush, you can use the NPC's/Players to help you in the early stages. It gets increasingly impossible as you get further in, relying on other players to kill for you, if there were no players there, especially when you have to collect the fel, it would be impossible. Forget being Blood Elf, you will not get past the first couple of qs, needing shadowmeld regularly. If the put a weapon drop into the zone this might be possible, otherwise good luck without cheesing it and wearing the weapons.
I will do a few more tests to see how far i can get, but at this point i feel that leveling a Demon Hunter is 99% impossible, but theres always that 1% chance of finding a way. Further reading has helped me see a few things that might help but i will get back to it.

- All quests up to getting your mount are doable by using the NPC's/Players
- The quest Assault on Mardum is optional, you can do it by just clicking on items, may take a while but worth it for the xp, but not needed for the questline. Tip is to use the npcs to help you kill, shadowmeld if you grab aggro.
- Set Them Free is easy enough, Enter the Illidari: Coilskar is simple, Eye on the Prize is where it gets impossible, you need other players there. Fortunatly atm there are 10-12 players at hand, that will slow down.
- Up the hill to a cutscene, up the hill more using shadowmeld if you pull. So heres Beliash a named mob, requiring help from other players to defeat and even then his shadowbolt volley is dangerous, thankfully you do have an NPC that heals you
- Now through the gauntlet of fire, mount up here. Up to the cryptic hollow to speak to jace, using your spectral sight, now to kill fel lord cazza, just run straight through, shadowmelding if needed, get to the top and wait for other players, you will get npc help when you engage but he hits too hard to take on alone, when defeated jump through the hole and fly to the entrance. You should be level 99 by now if not you are very close, if you chose not to do the optional quests you will be a little way off 99.
- You will now pick up 3 quests Into the Foul Cache, The Numbers are Legion and Stop the Bombardment. Use the npcs/players to help you with filling up the bar for The numbers are Legion, there are a few rares about to fill up the bar quick. OFC needing the help of other players. Stop the Bombardment is simple, now for the hard bit, killing the imp mother, players help needed then when she dies you get swamped with adds, i have died at this point 3 times, shadowmeld needed, drop aggro and run out as far as you can.
Will try to get further than this, but tbh this part is all luck, and having to complete the whole damn demon hunter intro is getting on my tits, all because of a stupid sailor hat............

I was able to delete a demon hunter before finishing the zone Do you have stuff waiting for you in your mailbox though? Currently I have a green cosmetic hat.... in every single character's mailbox on creation. Can't delete the character until that's cleared out.

So my best try was completing the whole of the starting zone and getting to 100, dying twice, its the same points every time but with a bit of luck and a bit of running, dodging and shadowmelding it can be done. The main culprits for death are getting the tome from the imp mother and the part where you are in a room having to fill a bar and collect fel power. Will try until i am successful.

As for iron DH, I unequipped all gear (including weapon) and was killed in about 10 seconds by the first mob haha. Not possible without cheesing it and using NPCs/players to do all the killing for you. Good luck to anyone that tries this.
That said, DH as a class is awesome.

Update, it is possible to get out of the starting area, with alot of luck, dodging, running and shadowmelding, oh and ALOT of help from NPC's and players.
One problem, you cannot sign up, as when you do try, its says you have a killing blow ratio thats too low (I would be very surprised if you could get out of the zone with more than 25% killing blow ratio). It also says that i had 16 slots equipped, i assume this is the 14 greens you start in and the 2 blue glaives that are forcably equipped once you get into the vault
The reason i want to sign up at this point is i didnt want 10-20 dead demon hunters in the honoured dead, i want to sign up now i know its possible and i have practically made it.

I got lucky with the imp mother, with a huge wall of players in front of me helping me out after i killed her, and the other tricky part, Fel Infusion and Vault of the Wardens, use the NPC Dredanim Whisperwind to help you. I got out of the starter zone only to die in an invasion ha ha oh well i will do it again, just want everyone to know it is possible, only on a Night Elf though, but by all means try it on a Blood Elf

I'll say what I said about Death knights , Demon Hunters should not be included in the challenge. (just to stir up Stone) I know I will get alot of hate , thats how this forum rolls. If you must include them let them register at lvl 100 and get out of the starting zone 100 - 110 is where it is at

They shouldn't be allowed at all in my opinion as the only realistic way to get out of the DH starting area is if other players are running it too. At least even before the patch a DK could solo everything without taking advantage of other players or a NPC script that just plays out eventually anyways(other than the final battle at Lights Chapel)
