Greetings, Irons.
I come from a rather successful raiding guild on US-Sargeras and decided to attempt to host my guild's version of the Ironman challenge. After several raiders attempted the challenge, many lost interest... but not me. I continued playing my Iron but lost interest due to lack of competition. Now, I have quit raiding and have come here with the intention of telling the story that has shaped me into a Tested man.
Round 1: Orc Hunter (Lvl 23). A classic choice. How hard could it be? Send Brutus in, turn on auto-shoot, go AFK, profit, right? Level 15. Ah hell, this is too easy, I can speed this up. Lets pull 2 mobs at once. Level 20. This is still pretty easy, lets get careless. An elite quest mob? I can take him. Brutus dies. Concussive shot on cooldown. Whack. Dead.
Round 2: Goblin Mage (Lvl 37). Ok fine, lets take this a bit slower. Spec as Frost, play smarter, and slower. Level 30. Going steady. Frost Mage is really fun to play. I can just blink away when I get into trouble. Level 35. Come to think of it, I have several escapes. Blink, Frost Nova, Ice Block, Frost Elemental Freeze. I'll be fine. I'll just play for a bit when my girlfriend is here. Damn cat... scratching the couch again, let me find the spray bottle. Thatll teach him... OH SHIT 15% health, Frost Nova, BLINK... right into another mob. Whack. Dead.
Round 3: Tauren Shaman (Lvl 19). So, Mage was fun, but not as challenging as I expected. My previous deaths were me just being careless, not my playstyle or anything. Lets try a melee class. Shaman might be fun, I can heal myself right? Level 15. Easy peasy. I can save some time by going over this mountain. Slipped. Splat. Dead.
Round 4: Tauren Shaman (Lvl 35). And here I stand, a Tested man. Lets take this seriously. Research each zone. Patience is key. Use common sense. Go through the checklist before logging in (Are you tired? Are there any external distractions around you? Are you in a calm mood? Are you focused?)
Why Shaman? I look at the leaderboard and see that the highest level Shaman right now is 75. I feel like there must be a reason for this. It has to be difficult. The challenge I have been looking for.
Thank you, and I will continue to update this post with my journey as I go.

Why Shaman? I look at the leaderboard and see that the highest level Shaman right now is 75. I feel like there must be a reason for this. It has to be difficult. The challenge I have been looking for. The truth is Draenai Shaman in Resto, after specs were introduced, i would say, are now one of the more easier to play, brought in line with hunters before specs. Tauren Enhancement Shaman is certainly one of the harder combos, if you wanted to go full hard mode i would suggest (Horde race here) Arcane mage, Good luck in Outlands, see you at the top soon, im in no doubt, you sound determined.

Thank you all for the kind words.
@marg: Although Arcane Mage sounds like a fun challenge, I am fully committed to playing Enhancement Shaman right now. I have been noticing lately that I can only chain-pull 2-3 mobs before having to stop and heal. I can only imagine this will get down to 1 mob at a time eventually.
I have been reading up about Outlands and it seems like quite a few of Irons die there. Based on your signature, you have fallen victim several times. Is there any specific advice you could give? Something you wish you had known earlier in your journey?

Something you wish you had known earlier in your journey? Outlands is by far the hardest part of the journey. As for my signature, all of them are alive and well. Currently going for all classes to 100. There is so much to learn my friend, im sure you will make the mistakes, the same as everyone else, its wether you learn by them that makes the difference. I noticed you only make horde chars, i understand that some people have a preference, Draenai shaman is by far the best race to go with. An extra heal and heroic presence gives them a stat boost over other races. I also find the alliance route far less buggy and easier, but thats a personal maybe biased preference. Stay focused, stay determined, learn from your mistakes, be patient in all circumstances, always log out in an inn.

Tested, you asked for some pointers on Outlands here my $.02. Wait until lvl 60 so you have flight at which point old world quests xp dives to 1/3 regular quests. You can explore all the zones flying high to avoid targeting by opposing factions and the occasional flying mobs. That will get you to 61. I usually do intro quests in HP that I know are easy and low threat then head to Zangarmarsh at 62. By cleaning all the quests in that zone out (minus the one with the elixir) you should be at 65-66 and can head to Nagrand. Finishing that zone will get you to 68-69. At that point you can start some of the easy daily quests in Northrend and nitpick some easy quests in Blades Edge to get you 70 and off to Northrend questing. Hope that helps.

Thank you both for the feedback. I really do appreciate the advice you both have given. @marg: Although I know I am not playing the most optimal choice here, but I still feel this can be doable if I have my mind right. I know I speak of being Tested but I really am just starting out on the journey of trial and error, successful milestones, and bouncing back after defeat as you all have before. At this state of things, I feel mentally prepared for the mistakes I WILL make, and plan to accept my fate when it comes. What attracts me so greatly to this challenge is that it is about mental stability in the face of hardship more than anything. ash: I have read players doing this and will plan to do the same. Thank you for the advice, and I will be sure to reference back to your post here once I get there.

Tested hit level 40 today. So far, surprisingly no close calls other than encountering King Bangladesh in Northern Stranglethorn. Southern STV went by pretty quick and safe. For the first time, I converted some advice I got here to in-game play and skipped the whole quest line that teleports you to ZG.
Still unsure what zone I will hit next, I guess its wherever the wind takes me.

Thanks for the advice, Ironwolf. I have heard such stories from other players so I am very careful in scouting out a zone before starting the quests there.
News: Tested has been sitting at level 43 for about a week now since I haven't made much time to play lately. Going to try to finish Western Plaguelands tonight then look for a new adventure on Kalimdor since I have been journeying Eastern Kingdoms since level ~20.
In other news: I am now rank #2 Iron on my server (US-Garrosh) behind a level 70 hunter. In the world of Shaman, I am sitting rank #13. I am looking up to Neverdied as an inspiration that this journey is possible.
Reminders: Tread lightly. Stay focused and precise. Play patiently. Stay ALIVE.

Bad news guys. Tested died today in Eastern Plaguelands around 7:20pm EST. Level 46 with 21 hours played.
This death wasn't really due to my carelessness, but more to my gameplay. There were a 2-pack of cultists that I was engaging. Right when I pulled them, 2 more spawned right next to them. Needless to say, I could have survived if I hadn't panicked. I immediately went Ghost Wolf and tried to run away, got dazed, fumbled a few other keys, and died. The correct way to go about this would have been to drop Earthbind Totem before going Ghost Wolf. That would have saved me.
This is my personal best record at 46 so I am not completely ruined by this. Level 46 is still respectable having only been in this contest for a few months. Looking forward, I need to do some self-reflection and see if the journey ahead involves another Shaman or starting off on another journey with a different class.
Any words of support or encouragement would be appreciated here. I'll report back in a few days after I collect my thoughts.

EPL is a very tough zone, so you shouldn't have any shame (if you do) in dying. Keeping cold blood in situations like that is practically impossible, and I think we all have our examples of that. Wait a few days or not, dust off and reroll

As Crystal says EPL is tough, but you will learn a little more with each attempt. I would say reroll two new chars, 1 shaman to beat your own personal best and also another different class char perhaps one of the 'easier' classes. NE hunters are one of the most succesful classes with shadowmeld and Feign Death as life savers. I'm playing a Hunter and a Paladin currently
