I haven't decided if I wanted to resub to the game yet. Instead of trying the game as a loomed up steroid beat down, I decided to try the iron man challenge on a new toon and see if resubbing was worth it. My home realm is Runetotem. That is where my non ironman characters are. Five of them leveled to their respective Max level without heirlooms. Priest to 70 holy (yes, I did it when it was insane to level as healing spec) then 80 holy and 85 holy/shadow. I came back for WoD and she was my first 100 leveled holy/shadow. Rogue was 70 sub (see my method? All the difficult specs) 80 sub and now 96 as sub.
There is more, like my druid that was resto only until dual spec. The before backstory was only to prove I love the challenge and journey of leveling. My rogue was my first capped character and had 65 days played before capping if that shows I love the journey more than the goal.
Now to my ironman and pacifist stories:
I made a night elf druid on Uther, my realm's sister realm (merger). I saw it fairly simple to level. Then I got to level 19 trying to kill more than one level 19 mob at a time. I stealthed where there was murlocs to gather items. Sadly one saw me and shadow meld was on cooldown. 5 murlocs ate my druid for lunch that fateful night.
This was when I started to do my research on this challenge and found I was doing it all wrong and made it more difficult on myself. I never did the RP aspect of the game and decided my next ironman will be on an RP realm. Off to Cenarion Circle I went! This time I decided to level a worgen as I never did their quest line. Now my worgen is level 17 and I am taking my time and doing quests once they turn green.
Since that character is so close to the 20 cap on "starter" or "veteran" accounts, and I haven't subbed up yet, I decided it is time to try the pacifist approach. After reading, I went to WrA for my night elf druid, which, besides a Tauren druid, is the best option for pacifist following their lore.
There I was, loading into Shadowglen, then it hit me. How the heck was I going to level? No money for professions and no fetch quests... Did some research and found a fetch quest that would work for a level one and got my mining and Herbalism. Then I saw the next challenge: finding herbs and mining while keeping my level 2 butt away from hostile enemies. I started to walk to Darnassus then to the village to boat over to Stormwind City. I did some of the minor fetch quests in stormwind and rode the tram to Iron Forge to discover some of the Dwarf and Gnome starting areas, searching for a good place to farm herbs. After about an hour of barely any herb gathering, it hit me. Elwynn has an abundance of herbs and Copper nodes! Off to the human starting area I went!
I started hugging the outer edges of Elwynn Forest fleeing from every agressive mob there was. (which is quite scary when you're level 3-5 and the mobs are level 7+). Luckily with the stat squish and dumbing of the game, they didn't hit me hard and only took small chunks of my health away. I am now level 5 close to six. This was when I decided to take a break for tonight and write this adventure. I will keep adding to this thread as my story progresses.
