I've recently made a Death Knight to use in the challenge, but noticed that they start with green armor and a blue sword. Some players were getting instantly red flagged for registering with the starter gear. Do we have to wait until we're past the starter zone and equip whites to join? If so what is the fastest way to get whites outside the first zone.

Death Knights follow the same rules as everyone else, so you have to unquip all those greens as soon as you log in for the first time To get gear, once you get past the very first quest to kill an initiate (it is possible naked, with some kiting, might take a few attempts!), you'll then get a teleport to the ground level. Down the hill from the main area is a mine, which contains lvl 45-ish mobs which are manageable while naked, you can kill them for grey drops (and hope for a weapon!) and vendorable stuff, which will in time get you enough money to buy some white armour from the vendor up above. This grind will take a few hours, but it's the only way to play a DK while staying within the ironman rules

Iarnaig hit it on the head but I'd like to add that DKs do not come with a blue sword at all. The sword you get from quests is not allowed to be equipped at all and will get you flagged.
