So I saw the Warcraft-movie yesterday (it was great!) and it got me curious about the lore.
I am actually a big fantasy-fan, I have read a bunch of novels in my 39 years on this not so fantasy-rock and I play WoW almost 11 years, being my first (and for now only) (mmo)rpg. But it never crossed my mind to combine the two…until now.
The question for me is: how do you combine the lore-part with the play-part? Doesn’t the story get lost with the amount of killing and running around? Reading all the quests is one thing, but really letting them sink in and ‘seeing the big picture in your head’ storywise….And what is the correct order in following the many quest lines?
This all may sound odd and strange, but for me it was always: when I read, I read. When I play a game, I play a game. Combining the two… that’ll be something else.
What are your thoughts on this? I hope this post makes any sense/is readable, but it sure does in my head, in my native language
…but then again, my head is a spooky place where I sometimes get lost

A few months ago, I hadn't been playing WoW for quite some time, but I got it into my head that I wanted to get to know the lore. I looked up Nobbel87 on Youtube and watched my way, slowly, through his videos. By the time I was done, I obviously had to re-sub and start working on experiencing the lore in game. (I also started reading some of the lore books).
I decided to work on Loremaster by creating several new characters and slowly levelling them through areas, with no heirlooms, and reading any information I come across. If an NPC wanted me to go into the dungeon, I'd read up about that dungeon in the Adventure guide first. If I get a book or note to deliver, I read it first. And, of course, I read all the quests.
The combined effort of researching the lore separately and experiencing the lore slowly in game has resulted in some amazing immersion. It's one of the reasons why I love WoW so much. And I've only done Vanilla/Cata rewrites content and a bit of BC so far.

Thank you Herrena, this is some very good advice. I started viewing Nobbels video's like you did and I have started a new Alliance-character. I have a lvl 100 Draenei DK, but I missed the first 55 levels of Alliance play (I played Horde for almost 10 years). With this new character I will be doing the IMC but with the focus being put on the 'lore'side. Thank you for the answer and insights
