Since as far back as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a Blood Knight. My father was a Blood Knight serving under Lady Liadrin, and he would tell me stories of their battles and how great of a woman she was. I used to run around the house with a broom handle pretending it was my sword, and I would vanquish the house of all evil. When I turned 8, my father died fighting by her side during the fight for the Sunwell. My mother, as well as others, thought there was something between my father and Lady Liadrin but we will never know.
I was sent away at 9 years old to study the ways of the priests but never really got into my studies. My head and heart would always be that of a Blood Knight. After 5 years of studying, I realized how much I really wanted to become anything besides a priestess. Between classes, and sometimes during them, I would sneak down to the rooms that the Blood Knights were meeting and would listen in on their conversations, trying to get as much information on them as possible thinking if I could think and act like them I could be one. I was caught one afternoon hiding in a corner of a large room where the three Master Paladin trainers would meet. One trainer, Ithelis, took me aside and asked what I was doing there. I explained to him I was observing them in the hopes of becoming a Blood Knight someday. He chuckled politely and said quietly, that if I wanted to become a true Blood Knight, he would teach me everything I needed to know after my classes.
I started meeting with Ithelis after my classes and whenever I had free time and he would teach me the ways of the Blood Knights. We would do weapons training and he would teach me to control my anger and channel it with the Light into powerful spells and attacks. I began to spend all my time with Ithelis and started neglecting my priest studies, learning everything he could teach me about Paladins, which is what they were calling themselves now. We began a budding romance that wouldn't bloom for years, or so I thought. The Light would be his first and only true love I would find out later.
It was the summer I turned 15 and I was sent to assist in the defense of Tranquillen, a small village south of Silvermoon City. They had been fighting all sorts of enemies and I couldn't wait to go and fight. I arrived there to find it pretty much destroyed save for two buidlings and a couple roadside vendors. I met with a couple people who told me what was going on and how I could help. I gladly took on any and every task they gave me. One vendor asked me to go and find and bring back his lost shipment. He was on his way here when he was ambushed by some zombies, so he left his cart and ran to the village. An apothecary asked me to go and get him some plagued murloc spines (eww, gross) for a potion he needed to make. I headed out towards the shoreline, where the murlocs would be gathered. On my way there I passed the vendors cart and grabbed his goods and threw them in my bag. Running as fast as I could but being very careful, I made it to the coast and began killing murlocs. Kill after kill I could feel my anger fusing with the light and I was killing murlocs faster and picking up their spines (yuck) and putting them in my bags. I hope I didn't have to eat anytime soon.
As I ran back, my mind went back to the days I spent with Ithelis training and the love I had for him. I was never able to tell him, me being only 14 and him being somewhat older. I wasn't paying attention as I ran and I started getting attacked by a wandering bat. I was able to kill him but as I turned to start running again, another bat came at me, and another, then two spiders. I was getting overwhelmed and couldn't heal myself fast enough to keep going.
As I breathed my final breath, I said 4 words "Ithelis, I love you".
My mother got a visit from Ithelis himself two days later. He explained what had happened to me and that the Paladins of Silvermoon City were proud to call me one of there own. As he turned to walk out the door, he looked at my mother and said simply " Holyiron, I love you " and he walked out the door.
RIP Holyiron, 15
