I have been gathering scalar quest values per level, which have not changed across patches or expansions. I am missing a few chunks, and would welcome reported values if you have a character at a missing level.
The easiest way to do this is to carry an account-wide pet battle daily quest. It appears in quest log at bottom under Battle Pets category, where you can see the value of a scalar daily quest for your level.
These values, in a spreadsheet [Scalar dailies.ods (29.09 KB)] comparing them to exp needed per level across different patches, answers the common question right now (Thread Link) before 8.1 lands: How much easier will it be? In the attached spreadsheet, you can see both the % Reduction in EXP at 8.1.0 and the values of both 8.0.1 Scalar per Level and 8.1.0 Scalar per Level. I firmly believe that while the endless flow of numbers may be overwhelming, once it is shown how many actual quests are needed it can be put into an experiential view of the scalar mechanics across levels.
All (current) activities are based on Scalar Quest Values.
Exploring grants 10% of a SQ.
A rested herb or mining node grants 20% of a SQ.
A rested arch node grants 50% of a SQ.
A vanilla rare kill (1 level higher in 1st half of level) grants ~114% of a SQ.
A vanilla rare kill (2 level higher in 2nd half of level) grants ~121% of a SQ.
A (vanilla) chest grants 200% of a SQ.
Treasures vary more and I haven't found the value pattern.
All Quests can be directly compared to the current SQ value to determine its % value. Messenger or go-see-this-guy quests are 5% or 10% and rarely higher than that. A boss quest near the end of a quest chain can be 125%, 150%, or even 200%. Some zones, when compared, will reveal their +25% quest exp modifier which still remains active since Cata revamp zones such as Loch Modan. When you reach the transition points between expansions, you can use these values to see if a quest (and its expansion that you've outleveled) plateaus or drops in value at your level, and by how much.
This is very useful to gauge how much of something you will have to do to gain that next level, pretty much no matter what you to gain exp as a challenger.
Please contribute if you have a value I am missing. Thank you.
