F#%!
Level 34 death!
How do the rest of you deal when you die after you've put so much time into a character? What makes you start again?

I have had deaths at 44, 55 and my most recent one at 66 (this one felt like a punch to the gut). I took the afternoon off and just like when my level 55 died, I had no intention of re-rolling yet or ever and I found myself creating yet another paladin. Playing my regular toons just didn't feel fun to me. Something felt like it was missing. Also, I had some family news that put me in a bad mood and having to concentrate to stay alive when leveling these things takes my mind off of something like that. You will know if and when you are ready to try it again. It's a personal challenge and for me to get so close and fail just pushes me more to try it again. My conscious mind says "no, way! I've had enough!" but my subconscious says "I can do it! Try it again!" Also, I seem to be doing these in levels of 11 (did you notice the pattern to the levels?) so I figure this new one should get to 77 before she dies and then I roll one more and she would be scheduled to die at 88 which would be in MOP so she should be safe.

Me, I'm an altaholic.
I have 11 85s, an 81, notso who is now 79, a couple more at 60 plus, and a host of toons in their teens and below.
I would rather do this and die than work on gearing other toons up.

I've had three irons die in the 20s, one in the 30s, and one last night at 63. In every case when I review the encounter that killed me I know for a fact that it was avoidable - whether by paying more attention to patrols or other nearby mobs, or simply by not doing the quest (e.g. General Marstone in Silverpine is very high risk if you don't have your own heals. The SFK bosses are not to be relied on.) Even Ironcroft (killed by a lag spike) could have been avoided. My latency had dipped into the yellow a couple of times earlier in the evening and since it's a recurring problem for me I don't tend to play my higher level irons at peak times. This time... I guess I was just enjoying it too much. Which is another reason to restart. The 10 hours or so I spent questing in Outland were perhaps the most memorable hours I've spent on WoW since my earliest days when everything was new - because everything was new again, and I don't feel I've ever played better than I did yesterday. All my other irons have been deleted with a shrug - that one failed, bring on the next contender. Ironcroft however I'm keeping, to gear up and run the rest of Outland and beyond. In a sense nothing is lost except the fear of sudden death - I can take risks now, and play in the evenings

Hey Ironcroft, this is Ironarij. Just wanted to say that I'm sad to see you died Thank you. I've been following your progress with great interest Already have, currently lvl 22 (levelled up on two long post-death sessions, which I'm sure is familiar to many of us.) I'm not sure I'm feeling at ease with a troll though - I miss Arcane Torrent and whilst the in-combat health regen is nice, berserking doesn't feel that useful. I'll see how it goes over the next few days. Don't die before I have a chance to catch up on you again

I'd strongly recommend going Night Elf. My main is a Horde ( us.battle.net/wow/en/character/shattered-hand/Arij/advanced) yet I am playing a Night Elf. Warriors implicitly have no outs, so Shadowmeld is a HUGE boon. Also, I don't plan on dying *knocks on wood*, so catch up quick, someone else just hit 62!

Dear fellow Ironmen It is with great sadness that I now retire from the challenge at the age of 49. I met a mean rare spawn ogre in Tenaris who beat me about the head and chased me for many a mile. I was weak with exhaustion when i stumbled upon a rare spawn basalisk who was attracted to the smell of fear and finished the ogres job for him. I will now be retiring with my companion Mr Grubbs and taking up a position as banker within the safe walls of Stormwind City. I have however been training a young warlock, Ironaggie (31) who will continue my work on Turalyon(EU) and perhaps in the next few days another young druid will take up my mantle. Meanwhile I wish fellow Challengers long life and good luck. Nelfette (Retired L49 Druid) PS- I'm gutted and crying into my breakfast at writing this

Dead in Shadra'alor in Hinterlands Dem trolls mon. Ironbob I hope you mourn my dead body if you find it. I saw you there I bit off more than I could chew. I killed many headhunters, shadowhunters and pups untill the sheer mass of back to back attack made me loose all mana and all life.
