One of the things I love about this challenge is the twinge of fear that you feel every time you enter a dangerous situation. It mimics real life far more closely than standard leveling does because, in real life, if you die, you don't get a second chance.
In that spirit, I think it would be sadistically fun to (try to) accomplish this feat on a PvP server. Has anyone tried this, or even given a thought to it? I understand how hard and frustrating this could be. Perhaps even a modified Ironman where the # of deaths is a figure of merit (If you have died less than 10 times that is A+ caliber, for example).
I just know that, for me, this additional constraint of always looking over your shoulder, living in constant fear of an ambush, would make the challenge even more fun.

I'm always a glutton for punishment...so I have an #unnamed# hunter on server #hiddenforsafetypurposes#...I personally would not invite trouble with an Iron type name, unless you wish to be ganked when you step foot outside the safety of the start zones...but it would be cool to know how far anyone has made it on a PvP server...
