the list is supposed to be for 'Ironman Challengers', so people who are doing their own personal challenge under different rules don't necessarily belong on the list, do they?
At the same time, I'm not opposed to them having recognition... and removing these people is likely to cause problems, as I could see someone spamming the page by adding every character in the Armory just because...
Perhaps another tab for these folks, so that they can have recognition, but be kept separate from the people participating in this Challenge? Or maybe a different icon besides the 'Red X' to denote non-challengers? Of course this last option would require a manual edit since I doubt it's feasible to program the code to tell the difference.

I think the different Icon would be the way to go - although you would have to add that manually, and I assume that would put way too much of a burden on Casa. I think the 'best' option is that if you are doing things differently, is to just use these forums to track your progress.

Just a question. I died with my lvl 12 Druid (damn Quilboars.. ) and i would like to delete it and create a new one with the same Name/Race/class combo. How can i delete it from the monitored list and enlist the new char? Character is Manzo on Jaedenar EU (horde) Ty for your help.

You don't need to do anything; you can either update the character now by clicking the "update" link next to your name, or when you delete it and create the new character, the site will detect that you've created a new character. I do this by using a combination of realm, name, and the time at which the level 10 achievement was earned... this is a unique combination that can never be recreated.

Casa, to reduce load couldn't you create a list of characters to be added the next time the list is revised and then automatically update it every hour or so - rather than when somebody clicks 'update'. That way you're in control of the load rather than the user. Just give them a message like "You character is in the queue to be added. The list will be refreshed in HH:MM:SS"
Maybe you could add a range of icons to show which rules a character has broken as well

Adding which rules a character has broken is definitely on my list of features. I know what I need to change to improve caching and allow sorting, I just need to set aside a few hours to work on it... now that the site is basically functional, I might actually have some time to do that. Of course, aside from not being my top priority, this site isn't even my top programming priority right now, so I can't promise any ETA

question Casa: something just popped up on the WoW forum thread about Neverdied getting a red X next to her name. she then posted a string of code saying that you changed the rules regarding killing blows.
don't know what may have been tweaked on your end, but just wanted to give you a heads up so you could check things out

First off I wanted to congratulate you on this awesome site. I have been watching the progress of the whole Ironman movement since it broke on mmo-champion bluetracker, but the tracker site is really what I feel brings it all together so nicely! It's been fun to watch it from the first day to how much slicker and pro it gets every day. For what it's worth, I wonder if it wouldn't be worth a quick check when someone tries to add a character to see if they have broken any of the "big" rules. Like this Baelyon from Arathor. This character has a full set of gear, even epics, has talent trees, professions, etc. The only criteria the person has met is no deaths as far as I can tell. I think clearly almost no one would agree he should be tracked on this site, as that wasn't it's purpose. I do get the idea of some people doing slight variations on the rulesets provided, and it would be cool to give them non red-x icons to somehow differentiate them without them looking like out and out cheats. But, anything manually updated to me should be viewed as a last resort. I'm all about the automation, and that is what has made this site catch on like wildfire I think! Off the top of my head, and based on my reading of the source code earlier in the week, I would add a counter as you tick down through the rules and setting the $valid = false like $rules_broken += 1. Keep a running total of how many rules are broken. Then, if a character has broken say less than 50% of the rules (except for dying, that is automatic out), or maybe a certain number of them (2? 3?) they get the different icon to indicate they are playing by slightly altered rules. Any more than 50%, and well this site just isn't for you, so we don't need to cater to you. Then you can just automatically trash the characters above the rule "bending" threshold, so it would not be possible to clutter up the list with invalid characters. You could keep trying to add yourself, but it just wouldn't let you. That gets rid of the trolls automagically. And, depending on the percentage or number of rules are decided to allow, you get an automatic "alternate ruleset" icon so you don't look like a dirty rotten cheat (red x) just cause you drank a single potion or you took up fishing! Perhaps another option would be to only auto delete characters that break every rule (except dying), and anything in between 50% and 99% gets the red x or put onto a separate listing. I don't know why people are posting characters that have done that (Baelyon again is a great example), but that gives a reason to keep the red x icon and is my attempt at being as inclusive as possible

Oh real quick on the killing blows thing, I think it would be interesting to hear an explanation specifically in the Neverdied character case. If you have 20k kills, but only 13k killing blows, how does that happen? The only thing I can think of is that the character was grouped and someone else is doing a huge portion of the killing. If a pet finishes a kill and that is why, then this code should probably be taken out. (though I think someone already did the hunter/pet test case)
But I think the ratio way casa has programmed is the best way if we don't get a better explanation for the discrepancy.

Here's what I just posted in the thread on the official forums:
Neverdied has said that she seeks out mobs which are fighting other NPCs, and only attacks those. Personally I kind of doubt this, as it would be more effort than just killing the mobs yourself. I won't accuse her of lying without any evidence, but even if this is the case, in my opinion it's against the spirit of the challenge.
Great idea. Maybe if you break a few rules you get one symbol (a yellow ! would work well), and more than that, is the X.

Suggestion! Maybe a little Key off to the side telling people what each symbol means

at first i was thinking 90% was a bit high, and that you might want to lower it to have a little more slack and grace
however, after the recent post Ironbraids did, 90% seems to be well within the scope of graciousness

Agreed, and this is why it scales below 2,000 kills (which is roughly level 40 if you're questing normally). If a level 10 character has 250 kills, it would only take 25 NPC kills to trip the 90% check... But if you only have 250 kills, your minimum killing blows ratio is 11.25%, meaning 221 of your 250 kills would have to be from NPCs to mark you with an X.
I'm monitoring this one carefully, since it seems to have pissed off and made happy a similar number of people... if 90% seems too high, I'll definitely adjust it.
