WoW! Don't know if I have enough ticks on the life clock left to run my way to 100 :-}

interesting. First aid have to be learned from a trainer (until you get the scroll in Draenor). It should be allowed (at least for classes with no heals) No food means that you'll have to wait for health/mana to regen over time. It'll be hard on some classes (pally and warriors come to mind). Is food from drops OK? No selling means only gold from quests. Riding will probably have to wait some lvl, especially fast flight Are repairs allowed? Seems like you forgot to say 'no guild' Should be doable, at least on hunters. I have never bought gear on AH or from other players on Xayaforsi, so I know they can do it, at least if they survive to 80

First Aid is allowed.
EDIT: On second thought, food and water can be bought from vendors. Certain classes would be hindered to the point of being unplayable otherwise.
No problem with guilds. You get +10% mount speed but whatever. Social aspect is important.

Hmm I like the idea of this, some of it's what I do already, others sound interesting indeed! Defining mandatory flightpaths and portals could be interesting; obviously, the Dark Portal is ok, since there's no other way to/from Outland, that's alright. But others are interesting - if you're Horde and want to quest in Badlands, there's a free flight from a quest, otherwise, all options involve passing either Alliance guards (pvp flag = bad!) or higher lvl zones - so is that flightpath mandatory? I forsee even more questions and grey areas about this than regular ironman I can see one which I think must be counted as mandatory: getting from Darnassus/Exodar to Kalimdor (you need epic flying to make it across the water without fatigue killing you), if you're a lvl 10 going to Darkshore, I assume it's not expected to get the boat to SW and then to Theramore and try to ride across Kalimdor through far higher lvl zones and past Horde guards! Or do we just have to avoid those zones which aren't practically accessible? Mounts allowed, does that include flying mounts? I would say, flying should be allowed for quests you absolutely cannot access without one (and if there's a flightpath option, use that instead, for example, Shatter Point in HFP), otherwise stay on the ground as much as possible. Of course earning the gold for flying could be a challenge too, with only quest reward gold and no vendoring stuff! I was thinking of rerolling my 2nd iron warlock so it was a fresh WoD character, might try running it hardcore and see how long I last!

I actually ONLY used starter gear.
As a Druid, I played as a caster so by the time most mobs got to me they were already near death. Virtually zero armor was never a problem. Granted, I never got to a high level so don't know how far you could go with that, and probably not feasible for melee classes.

Ah forgot about flying mounts. Nah, ground mounts only. That's a big one actually, thanks for reminding me You got it right regarding non-mandatory flight paths. Basically, if there's no way to get there on foot or by boat/plane/whatever, it's ok to use. Not necessary to try to outswim fatigue.

Sounds fair - also a suggestion: no quests which scale with your lvl. So no Plants vs zombies/Kalu'ak daily (I'd say regular dailies which you will outlvl are ok, else people may run out of options at some lvl ranges), and no holiday quests. While I do think they're fine and don't mind doing them (as a supplement to my regular questing, not as my main form of exp), I know others think it's more ironman not to, and hey, if this is hardcore, may as well make it super-hardcore

Currently level 22 so I haven't hit any roadblocks yet, but I did get a quest that had me run from Sentinel Hill in Westfall to Stormwind to talk to Varian, then run back to Sentinel Hill, then directly after got a quest that had me run to Redridge. Ate up a good 30 minutes. Would have taken maybe 5 had I been using flight. It definitely makes you appreciate the expansiveness of the world though. All the flying and instant ports can make it feel a bit small at times.

I haven't really done any more on the irons yet but I'm still waiting for someone to join me in hardcore pacifist - precisely the same as regular iron but no mob kills. Pussies, the lot of you!
Melee would be hard if not impossible under these rules, as damage is very dependent on weapons. And you get whacked all the time.
Badlands point is very good - I used to, as a baby horde, go through from Stranglethorn on every toon to Duskwood and Deadwind passage just to get the flightpath at Kargath. Multiple corpse runs but worth it as it enabled flight from the top to the bottom of the continent. There's no other way to get there than through all the Alliance zones to the north, with pesky level 100 guards. Just nope.
Also not sure why you can't sell anything as we don't use gold for stuff anyway. I'm not tossing away quest rewards with a monetary value. Maybe it's the Aussie in me, but bugger that. I remember needing to get to level 40 for a mount and I couldn't get it as I didn't have enough gold for another 2 levels. I like gold, and not having to run everywhere. I LIKE IT.
Sigh, think I'll just go jump in the pool again and open another beer. Merry summer Christmas everyone!

There's no one monitoring this, it's just a personal challenge so do whatever you want. The idea is to run the game with the most minimal resources possible. Don't see what being Australian has to do with that, lol.

what about quests that require to buy something from a vendor? Like the rapsody malt in Karanos or 'grade-e meat' in Booty Bay? Are those out of bounds for hardcore mode or are they ok?

- Vendor NPCs can only be used to repair gear and buy food/water. Selling anything is forbidden Would certainly think that any vendor item specifically required for a quest would be allowed since you're not actually purchasing anything to give you an advantage.
