After failing several times at the regular Ironman Challenge (mostly warriors - I'm still determined to succeed with that class) I happened on this refinement of the original Challenge - I mean, why not make it even harder, right?
Pacifists cannot kill stuff and can only do benign quests that don't require the destruction of mobs. And not die, of course.
The upside of being a Pacifist is that you can have professions. I chose Mining and Herbalism for my guy. He's an undead Priest as I thought the ability of Power Word: Shield would come in handy if I ever managed to make it to level 5.
Still working on it... currently in the last half of level 4 with about two and a half hours of play.
Making your first gold (silver, actually) is the rough part. My strategy here was to nab any available benign quests, which are not many, hoard the coppers from completing them and then put my first gathered resources on the AH. Then I went out and drudged my undead butt off gathering a ton more. I didn't really need much in the way of armour since I spend most of my time running away from things out to get me, but the extra padding would be nice.
By far the easiest place to start farming your ore and weeds is just outside the front gates of Orgrimmar. Several nodes are available with no risk to your life and after you reach level 3 and your agro field shrinks to less than a mile wide, the mobs are more likely to leave your noob self alone. Or at least they are weak enough you can make a dash to safety.
My other beginning strategy was to visit all the beginner zones and pick up the few quests that required no killing. That put some coppers in my pocket and eventually I was able to post to the AH and get some cheap white gear.
I kept the priests' robe, however, as it was only a one-point armour gain and I think the robe looks way cooler than the tattered remnant from the armour vendor.

Just wanted to throw some tips your way. This is very server dependent but put a of stack 20 of your Copper Ore and Low level Herb for 1g or more per unit and you will start to getting sums of gold to sustain you Gear and Cloth needs. With WoD, players have a much easier time leveling professions by just using WoD materials and the demand for older materials have decreased substantially. But they are still used by Inscription for Glyphs and people wanting to craft certain gear pieces for transmogrifying. I wanted to warn you as you chose undead with your www.wowhead.com/spell=5227/touch-of-the-grave passive. This can cause problems at higher levels if you by accidentally melee grey mobs further down the road that can potentially proc it and kill the mob. Best of luck on your run!

Thanks for this, LokivTokiv, as I was unaware that this could become a liability later on. I will have an eye and hopefully it won't cause problems. Also, I noticed my copper and herbs are selling better than expected so that is a boon and I have been able to 'white up' myself nicely. Great tips - many thanks!

DAY 2: A hard road to level 5 but once obtained, things got markedly easier. For running away, that is... lol. I actually met another Ironman at Solliden Farm last night and he obligingly killed a rare that was hovering over a coveted pumpkin I was attempting to steal. The rare had nearly killed me just previously, so many thanks to Ironwarlock for that and I'm sure he appreciated the XP as well.
My herbs and ore are selling very well and I was able to buy Netherweave Bags and a nice line of robes (have decided to wear only robes in the chest slot) from a vendor in the Magic Quarter in Undercity. White right up to level 45 or something, too. Yay! I'll be running for my life in style.
Currently, I'm at level 7 and it's getting pretty boring, but I don't want to give into temptation and go to a higher-mob level and end up dying. Been there, done that... a few times. I think I can venture into the Barrens (north) after I hit level 8 and start harvesting Mageroyal, etc.

Was doing great: Using mostly Exploration for Durotar, Northern Barrens and Mulgore, collecting herbs and ore along the way, I reached level 13. I was getting cocky and decided to Explore zones in the Eastern Kingdoms starting with Tirisfal Glades. I had forgotten just how deadly the Scarlet Monastery guard can be... bubbled in Power Word: Shield, I thought I could run in an run out. Two shots later, I was dead.
*heavy sigh*
Oh well... RIP Ironpax.
Better Idea: I think I'll gear him up and level him accordingly, keeping him around as a scout. This little incident could have been avoided if I had only scouted out the area first!

I tried out Pacifist once when I was fatigued after dying with a high level Ironman Warrior. What I did it that I literally was picking Copper Ore / Peacebloom / Silverleaf and Earthroot South of Razorhill down to Senji´n Village until you receive reduced exp for picking them. This is the route I followed:Follow the Black line until the mobs around you are Grey (when you hit 15-16) You can add the green line in to your rotation, plenty of nodes in there. Some of the scorpids are will grow to detest. After that you should be around lv 20 or a bit higher. Do pick up archaeology at lv 20 and only do sites were you feel safe. After I was done with Durotar, I went to Ashenvale circling the north west parts until they get reduced exp and then over to Hillbard Foothills and lastly The Hinderlands. I died at 39 because I got overconfident when I did a archaeology site in Loch Modan and instead of walking a safer way I walk to close to the Dwarf camp and got shot in the head by a 100 guard. Hopefully you will give it another shot!

I just wanted to comfirm that you indeed do not receive any experience from skinning. I agree with Xayaqc that Mining and Herbalism are the best combo since they are a fantastic way to gain experience.

yes, thanks LokivTokiv, I'll do that; mining. And a good thing, the Darkmoon fair started, better don't try the cannonball when low level and in your bikini.....I got shot away without wings!! Fell down and barely survived with 10 HP left, but did get the 'falling down' ach , but it could've been the end! That ach made me lvl 5 so I started fishing there, very lucrative, hope I can sell all.
