Hey all. Don't post here or do challenges much these days but I saw that the PTR had the shadowlands prepatch so I decided to copy over an ironman I had abandoned back in Legion or BFA. Not really sure, just know it was when mobs got buffed to high hell and it took 100% of your focus and 5 years off your lifespan to fight a single mob, so I ditched it and moved onto Greenman.
About 4~ months ago I hopped on that level 80 ironman monk I abandoned so long ago and took it through some starting quests in Howling Fjord. It was horrible. Nearly died to every single mob I fought, fights took so long, I had to paralyze and vivify myself back to full HP twice per mob. Parked it back in an inn and decided to leave it for a time when questing is viable at higher levels (80+). Not a fan of the daily quest meta for current ironman, so I don't bother. I'm sure many of you feel the same as I do. It may be safer but it definitely is a lot more boring.
Saw the PTR was open with the shadowlands prepatch. Decided to hop on and copy my level 80 monk. As of writing this, Chromie time is either disabled or bugged and many continents are zone locked instead of 10-50. Kalimdor/EK is 1-30, Cata zones are 30-35, etc. My monk was squished down to level 30 down from 80, and I dinged 31 from exploration xp. Headed over to Uldum to try and beat some stuff up, or get beaten up.
It felt a lot better than I remember. Level 31 fighting level 30 mobs. (Praying that Chromie time won't affect mob stats when it's re-enabled). Every fight felt fair, definitely have to keep on your toes and I still have to heal up a couple times. Pulling two mobs is still somewhat of a death sentence, but with healing classes I feel like you can tank it. However, it doesn't feel anywhere near as grueling as on live. I recorded 2-ish minutes of me just punching stuff around in Uldum if those who are more versed in Ironman would like to get a feel of fighting mobs on PTR if you don't have the PTR or can't play it or whatever other reason.
I would have liked to record me fighting some mobs on live, but I'm gonna be real and admit I'm too scared to touch that character after the ass whooping I got in howling fjord.
(Ignore me clicking my spells and abilities. Was too lazy to keybind, I'm sure it would go a lot smoother if you actually bound your abilities)
What do the people who actually play ironman think? This is just level 80/30, fighting random mobs in a random zone and it isn't endgame, but I think it'll be a bit easier from this point forward to quest traditionally.
