Even though no one has yet reached the max level, I had some thoughts regarding group content. Especially since many irons on my server died to Yetimus in Hillsbrad or some of the elites in Ghostlands. Also, we can't enter dungeons.
I started something with gear restrictions as a sort of "Let's Play" last year with some friends, and I thought, why not use this is a basis to maybe create an "Iron Man Dungeon Mode"?
This is of course just an idea. But maybe we can tweak this over some time create a group edition, seperat from this "Iron Man", but as a group alterantive maybe.
We could use some of the rules of the Iron Man Challenge, but would have to change many. Only white and gray gear might work on the first few dungeons, but anything beyond will just murder the tank and oom every healer before a mob dies.
When I started my challenge, we only had gear restrictions. Those were our restrictions (one of those per character, but everyone may only appear once per group):
- Only Gray Gear
- Only White Gear
- Only Gear bought from vendors (NOT the AH! - but PvP or PvE point vendors are okay)
- Only Gear crafted by the character himself
- "Style gear" (we had a rogue who only used a cape, a mask and daggers - and that was before transmogrification).
As you can see, the gear role alone is much different, but the tank and healer need gear to survive. Also, everyone was allowed to use professions, potions, buffs, enchants etc. With this, the character with the "crafting restriction" could use two craftin professions, the other ones could provide him with the materials and themself got the passive bonuses of the gathering professions. The ones with only gray/white gear would also get upgrades with buffs and enchants on their gear.
So, these kills some of the iron man restrictions, but in my oppinion are necessary. I would also change the no death rule to something like "no full wipe rule". So when the group has to run, you fail - but if your healer has a soulstone - well, lucky you. He can ress you and you can try again.
At the moment, it is just a basic idea. But as said, maybe we can flesh this out. More/other restrictions on gear and other rules.
But first of all:
What do you think about this idea? Not fleshed out, but as a start~
