So, yesterday was an adventure. I sign on on start playing and almost immediately try to kill my character. Not a good start to the day.
I started exploring the zone and was up north getting the explore point to Dreadmaul Hold, when I got distracted by family members. Since my attention was divided I wasn't paying quite enough attention, and I didn't realize Dreadmaul Hold was a horde base. So, i walked straight up to the gates following two orge ambushers. At that momment I realized my mistake when two horde guards spotted me and started attacking. I quickly turned around and ran away, drawing the attention of perhaps two more guards. I am not entirely positive how many were attacking me, I just knew that there was a lot. And they were level 65 and hurting me and if I didn't do anything I was going to die. I didn't really think, just acted. I was away from the gates, and my health was dropping fast, I pushed shadowmeld and hoped for the best. Luckily, I had not been stealthed so I didn't have to wait for the stealth cooldown. I just had to go into prowl and run away. I slowly made my way back to Netherguard keep staying in stealth the entire time and I hid in a basement until my pvp tag wore off. The good thing though, is that level 100 are unlikely to be in my phase of the blasted lands, since there is a new one specifically for level 100s. That said, I was happy when I was no longer pvp.
That put a damper on the whole day. I had been feeling good but that made me realize how quickly things could go bad. I continued playing, but far more cautiously than I had before. Perhaps, I should have been playing more cautiously to start with but caution is not my strong point. I managed to explore the whole zone, but spent a lot more time stealthed than I normally do. If there was the slightest possibility something might see me, I stealthed. I managed to explore the whole zone, but it took longer than I had planned. I didn't stick around, the zone made me nervous, so I returned to Swamp of Sorrows and gathered herbs until I was at 59 and a half. I could have gotten more, but I wanted to see Silithus before I hit 60. I knew that once I hit 60, and quests would be almost worthless to do, so if I could do them before then that would be the best.
There were a bunch of digsites along the way, so I decided to do them first. At desolace I fell off a cliff. I only took 800 damage out of my 4K health, I was in cat form and I have no idea how much damage I would have taken if I hadn't been. Apparently cat form saves about 30% of maximum health, so I guess it wouldn't have killed me, but it would have hurt a lot. I didn't mean to jump off, just got too close to the edge. Fortunately druids can cast cat form while falling. But really, that was very careless of me. Dying in a high level zone would be bad enough, but dying in a low level one to something like falling? Terrible.
I hit 60 right before I reached Silithus. Decided to explore it anyway, just to see if there are any good quests. The information might be useful later. It seemed to be easier than the blasted lands. And I don't think it was just because I hit 60. The enemies there were a couple of levels lower I think. Wandering around I saw that most enemies were on the lower end for the zone. Herbs are ores were about the same in both zones. The only quest there was one to go to the Blasted Lands. Another reason to do it first I guess. At level 60 Rich Thorium only gave 270xp, Dreamfoil 200xp. A huge decrease from the 800 they were giving at 59. I guess ores and herbs are also affected by the xp decrease when you switch expansions. I had kind of been hoping they weren't. There was a bright spot amongst all this, I found two Chest of Tiny Glass Animals, worth 100g each. Nice. Won't do me any good if I die. But still, if I can manage to stay alive the gold will be useful.
After I finished exploring Silithus I returned to Stormwind and bought old world flying. At the start of the day I had planned on hitting Outlands when I turned 60. After my near death experience I decided to wait one more level. I got flying, turned off being able to cast spells in flight and wandered around the world doing digsites. Archaeology is so much easier and convenient with flying. I easily hit 61 through archaeology. Only digsite of note was the one in Winterspring. I do not recommend doing the one in Frostfire Gorge without flying. It was annoying enough as it was with flying.
Sadly, druid's can not survey in flight form. They can in cat though which is kind of odd. They can however pick herbs in flight form, which I used to my advantage when I entered outlands. Being able to stay in bird form and fly away, even in combat is very, very useful. I can also pick up quest items in flight form, which made some quests very easy for a druid to do. I would pick herbs in bird form, and be careful around ores, making sure I could cast shadowmeld if needed. I can go from elk to night elf to bird all without leaving shadowmeld, which is very useful. I will however, do some more testing to make sure in someplace safe. There is the possibility that when I left elk form I left shadowmeld, but I was far enough from enemies that they just did not see me so I really need to double check.
I wasn't able to fully explore the zone. I couldn't get the horde town explore node, and I was not willing to fly closer. I learned my lesson. It will bother me that I haven't fully explored the zone, but I will remind myself it is not worth dying over. There were a number of quests I was able to do. There were the introduction quests, Outalnd Sucks!, In case of Emergency, Waste not, want not, Ravager Egg Roundup, parts of the chain that starts with In search of Sedai, most of the Naladu chain, and Zeth'Gor must burn. The last one was a bit tricky, but not impossible. I pretty much had to save shadowmeld and use it to escape combat after every tower. If I rooted one enemy, fly in as a bird, used the smoke grenade thing, ran a little off, shadowmelded then shifted back into bird, I didn't take a ton of damage. It wasn't as safe as I would have liked, but still doable.
I hit 62 in Hellfire. I got mark of the wild, which is...less useful than I had remembered. Forgot it doesn't give any stamina. Well, I guess the agility does give me a little more dodge so it isn't completely worthless. While I could leave Outlands and just level through old world archaeology, that doesn't feel like the spirit of the challenge. I plan on staying in the outlands until I hit 72. I might allow myself one easy level, but I want a majority to be challenging.
I plan on doing some testing for Iron man lite, so I won't be playing Miyra for a bit. I need a bit of a rest. I have played her a lot in the last couple of days and I am getting tired, which makes me even more careless than I normally am. I cannot afford to be careless anymore. Plus, getting some rest xp will be nice since I plan on getting my next level in Hellfire mostly through herbs.
