I'd left Darkshore in disgust and despair. Where were the hands willing to rebuild Auberdine? The troll incursion to the east of Lor'danel was stymied. We should have been focusing on reclaiming our former main coastal city... but we weren't. I overheard too many conversations from The People -- citizens of Lor'danel all -- about how that town would prosper and grow now, without being overshadowed by Auberdine.
The venality and complacency sickened me. I flew to Ruth'eran Village, and on a whim, booked passage back to Stormwind.
I'd heard stories of the worgen who haunted the Duskwood, and I was curious. The People are responsible for their presence in our world, after all, and we have formed ties with the Gilneans who suffer the curse. I sought out directions to the human town, Darkshire, and was told to go to Lakeshire first, as the only proper road to Darkshire started in the Redridge foothills.
Lakeshire itself was pleasant, but the citizenry irk me no end. Their hail-fellow-well-met attitude is forced and false; they smell of desperation and resentment. Nevertheless, I found myself helping push back the local gnolls, and scouting out the location of a band of Blackrock orcs. An encounter with the latter left me in bad shape, and after confirming these presence with the guards, I patched myself up and returned to Darnassus via the hearthstone. I'd barely unpacked when a senior druid fluttered in on raven's wings and 'requested' I help with an exploratory team near Blackfathoms Deep.
Collecting statues and thinning out naga aren't the most glamorous work, but they have their share of dangers. Once I had to call on the shadows to hide me when a patrol took me by surprise. That assignment completed, I flew to Darnassus to practice combat while shapeshifted. It's not as instinctive as I thought it would be.
I know I'll find my way to Darkshire again -- I love a mystery -- but for now, it's so good to be home!
