Some races/classes/starter zones are going to be more difficult than others, mostly because the game isn't designed to be played like this. So depending on which one you choose, you may have a harder time, at least initially. Alliance is better suited for the challenge (imo) because for one, night elves start with shadowmeld which is very useful in keeping your paci out of combat, and two - as far as I know, I may be wrong about this - the gnome starting zone is the only zone I'm aware of that has herbs and ore IN the starting zone and not just right outside it.
If you really want to play horde side I can't give much advice since I rarely play horde, BUT, if it were me...I would go with any race than can play a rogue. You'll at least get vanish at level 34 which is super helpful.
I'm not sure I understand your confusion with the rules? Pacifist is nearly the same as Ironman rule wise, the 2 biggest differences being you cannot kill anything (critters included) and you're allowed professions. Everything else is the same. As you gain levels by herbing/mining, new quests will open up and you'll be able to find no-kill quests a little easier. A lot of "go here, go there, go meet so-and-so, go deliver this to so-and-so, go pick some flowers" type quests (always use your best judgement - if you have to attack something, even if not to kill, it's generally best to stay away).
At level 10 fishing and cooking dailies become available. Fishing doesn't count as killing stats wise and is perfectly fine for the challenge, though some pacifists choose not to fish. It's a personal choice. Then at level 20 you can pick up archaeology which gives a pretty decent amount of xp - but it can be a bit dangerous in the beginning so be cautious if you try it out right at 20.
I was discouraged in the beginning too. I had no idea where to start lol! Once you get the hang of it though, it can be a really fun and sometimes addicting challenge. I've explored areas of the game I didn't even know existed and I've been playing for almost 9 years. You're essentially forced to go to every possible zone in hopes of finding quests you can do or to explore a new dig site/area. Right now is a great time since Lunar Festival offers easy no-kill xp and DMF can give a decent amount of xp for professions as well.
Good luck with the challenge and stay safe!

I like to star as a NE Priest, Draenei starter zone has many kill-free quests, and the exploration gives good XP. Portal to/from Exodar/Darnassus makes for free transport. Onmly there's no Elders in Exodar or Azure Watch. You can honour an elder from level 1 so rigth now money for proff's is not a problem. Start a couple of new Peaceful off rigth now, and let them ist at an inn untill you need them

I have some questions my self about the pacifist challenge, and I didn't want to start a new thread.
I was planning to do the pacifist challenge on a pandaren character, what's better fitting eh. But since it's impossible to leave the island and choose a faction without killing mobs for the chain quests, I was thinking of a few plausible alternatives and I want to know if any of these would be accepted: 1 ) Be in a party with someone else on the isle that kills the mobs for the quests you need. 2 ) Start off the challenge as a different race, and race change into pandaren.

No. Pacifist Pandaren is out. As are pacifist Worgen and pacifist Goblins (an oxymoron if there ever was one). I understand your drive to make pacifist Pandaren, but no is what I say.

Well, you could, if you do it the Doubleagent way, which is, never leave the island and pick Peacebloom forever You'd have to be REALLY patient though....

Don't know if I agree with this. If race changes are allowed, what would it matter what race you are. Race is little more than a cosmetic choice anyways.

Five Iron had pointed out that the Pandaren have extra bonus rest xp and something else... can't remember exactly what but it's not strictly cosmetic (which I thought it was).

Bonus rested exp isn't techincally an advantage, it's just waiting less time logged off to get more rested exp bars than on other races. Rested exp percentage is the same. The other racials are 100% increased food buff (can't use), and a 4 second stun that breaks on dmg (exactly as gouge which I have as a rogue). What if I racechange once I hit 100?

I'd say a race (or faction) change is against the spirit of the challenge, and so would a class change. You start a toon, and you get that toon as defined to 100. You don't like your choice? delete the toon and start over
Xayaforsi lvl 100 pandaren hunter (alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayamonk lvl 29 night elf rogue(alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayablood lvl 39 bloodthirsty night elf monk(alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayahorde lvl 12 bloodelf rogue (alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayapaci lvl 23 pacifist rogue gnome (alive) Wyrmrest Accord

I don't think all race changes should be disallowed. Only the impossible ones. You can't do pacifist as a Goblin, Worgen, or Pandarian as you cannot leave the starter zone without doing the quest chain - and this means kills You could level on only herbalism/mining like Iarnaig says (boring!). Really no, on second thought this is an NO! No can do. As this would ruin all the hullabaloo on being the first dwarf/Orc etc to reach level max. You could level a NE hunter to 99,75 then change race and voila be the first Undead or whatever. Even worse class change! Paladin is possible all of a sudden. NOPE not like this.
Sorry This post mirrors my thinking processes. And ends up another place than where I began. Changes are no-no in my book.

While I can agree that it probably should not be allowed, I don't think I have a method of tracking it. I will give it some thought and see if there is something I can come up with.

Is this really something worth the effort of disallowing?
Since all races and classes are allowed, why should changes be disallowed? What advantage is given? If someone want's to level a Pacifist Pandaren, what is the real harm of enabling that via a race change? I really don't think people are choosing race in order to be the first to reach max level, and is that even something that people bother to notice or care about?
I can see some reason to disallow class changes, but is that determinable? Leveling to 99.99... as a Hunter, and then class changing to Warrior certainly seems slimy, but how would you know? And I don't see the same sort of advantage gained with a race change.

There's no such thing as a class change in the shop, I have no idea what you're talking about. Anyway, I'll accept whatever decision Stone reaches. Just wanted to say that from my PoV the race change is merely cosmetic (you can only race change into races that your class can play from level 1). If someone were to do pacifist pandaren from the start they'd be factionless.

Race change is meaningless as far as the challenge goes even in the event someone leveled a night elf to 99.9999999 and then changed to another race. They completed the difficult part by surviving.. who cares about nothing more than a cosmetic issue.
Not like we wouldn't know they did it anyways from watching the leader boards unless they waited to join until the race change which is some serious dedication to trying to mislead folks into thinking you got the first "insert race here" to 100.
Also you need to be level 10 to enact a race change and can only do so within your own faction (not sure how this affects Pandas with no faction)... a separate change is needed to also change your faction.
Might I also add... $25 for a race change and another $30 to faction change just for a character that will likely die before ever hitting 100... no thanks. If someone really wants a Worgen/Goblin/Panda pacifist/bloodthristy that badly let them feel free in my opinion.

I agree wholeheartedly with Xaya that you make choices at character creation which affect your entire run, and changing these choices (without re-rolling) should not be allowed. Included choices: class, race, gender, name, server, and faction: all of which I consider immutable until death, although others probably see no difference in. I am not looking to broaden the topic of discussion, only to generalize that all these are not changeable from within the game. These are important choices, and worth re-rolling for if you have chosen unwisely. Because there is no ability from within your class/race to become another race. No. Races have benefits and limitations which modify game play. If you want cosmetic effects, use items from the Toy Box. These are unrestricted and allowed for irons to alter their appearance without effect. Or just be a Pandaren from the start and live with choices naturally available to you. Furthermore, why are most challengers night elves? Why did we have a poll of what is the easiest/most difficult race to play? Did all the previous discussions about race over the past years amount to meaningless blather? No. Slippery slope argument: If paid changes are in any way allowed, then allow WoW Tokens also. Either way, you're only modifying your character with real world money. Both are invalid for irons. I'll show you how I'd take advantage unfairly, which is amazingly like the Paci Pandaren proposition that started this. I create a night elf rogue. He has Shadowmeld which saves his life many times over as he levels up to 34. At 34, he gets Vanish and doesn't benefit from Shadowmeld so much anymore. I pay to have him changed to Pandaren now that I'm done with night elf advantages. At that point, he levels much faster from 34 and up with double rest exp. I wouldn't have to retain the benefits or limitations of any race, my initial choices become inconsequential, and most wrongly, I effected the change by a mechanic outside of the game play. But I still get to stand alongside legitimate challengers and be compared equally to them? Riiight. Edit: Same pattern could be applied to any class which acquires an ability to leave combat, which is the single greatest save-your-ass for any iron. Only one race gets this ability. IIRC, rogues, druids, hunters, and mages get conditional, limited abilities which can remove you from combat. Leveling up to that ability as a night elf, then switching to any more beneficial race, has potential for abuse. I think that some just aren't understanding Pandaren Inner Peace. Not only does the rest exp accrue twice as fast as other races, but it also holds twice the capacity. While other races cap rest exp just over one level, Pandarens resting for same time will have over two levels of rest exp waiting for them to consume. Perhaps those who only play Iron don't care because they have such abundant quests to primarily gain from instead. However, both Pacifists and Blood Thirsty primarily gain through rest-exp-consuming activity. The difference is a large exp modifier, normally balanced by the fact that you have to start and finish as a Pandaren.
