Please maybe I'm reading into the rules to much but I really need some clarification on the Pacifist Challenge - Rules state one thing, forums state another, and videos on YouTube show some totally different as well.
Start off with a newly created char with 0 funds - Herbs 10c, Herbalist's Spade 1s, Mining 10c & Mining Pick 77c = 1s97c - So how?
Rules: - No kills allowed. Not even for questing. Break this rule and your character is RED FLAGGED Yet I have seen/read char's doing dailies (i.e.. fishing, cooking, some reg. quest (escort/delivery) & HOLIDAY EVENTS, yet the rule states not even for questing!
- Receiving anything from another character is against the spirit of the challenge: no gold, gear, bags, etc. Play with what you have been given for your lone character. Seen videos brand new char and receiving 20g out of their mail and others that sent white robes/dresses (like the black dress, Luna dresses, etc.. from a main char
So what are the actual rules of the how-to start & how do you start this challenge off with 0 funds to get your gathering professions?
Thank you

Hi! And welcome to the challenge! No kills for pacifists is correct, not even in quests. To get your starter funds, most pacifists sell some of their starter gear- like a weapon, pants, etc. in order to get enough copper to buy one gathering profession - herbing or mining. Herbing is good because you don't need any tools. Just pick some herbs. You can vendor them of course, but you'll do better if you can get the 1s to put a listing on the AH. Undercut anything there just to get your first money. You might need to do some exploring to get a couple of levels to qualify for the usual 'delivery to the next inn' quest - ie. to Dolannar or goldshire inn. And there are some other non-violent quests here and there too. I know there are in Dolanaar and in the Draenei starting area and when you're a little bit older, there are a couple in Elwynn Forest. Note that it isn't really possible to get out of the panda or worgen starting areas as a pacifist. (I don't know about goblins since I'm Ally). Once you start selling your first herbs you'll get enough cash to buy a mining pick, replace your white gear at a vendor, etc. I don't know anything about the vids out there but it NOT permitted to receive gold or gear in the mail from your other characters (or anyone else). Pacifists in the challenge are allowed to learn cooking/fishing/archeology (unlike other iron challenges). Some people choose not to, in the spirit of not killing fish etc. but it is permitted by the rules. The basic thing is nothing that produces a kill - and that includes breaking ice tombs in Dun Morogh, etc. If in doubt, ask someone Good luck to you!

First, thank you for your reply, I greatly appreciate it - someone should really update the Rules for Pacifist because it is not stated. I started off as a druid (Horde) not much starter gear but weapon, legs & chest and I refuse to flaunt my utters! Can you do any of the holiday event quests, as long as you don't KILL? Or are the holiday quests/events off-limits?

Weird, as I started with my Pacifist run as a Troll we get a quest from the get go called The Rise of the Darkspear that gives you 25 copper off the bat. Seems like some races has a jump start compared to others.
Hope you will find doing a Pacifist run as relaxing as I do. Best of luck on your run.

Darkmoon Faire is ok to visit as a Pacifist, just don't do the whack a gnoll daily as that counts as kills. Good luck with it!

A mining pick is NOT required for Mining nodes any longer. I'm unsure what the cost of learning Mining is, however, I'd assume it's close to, if not the same as Herbalism.

Mining & Herbalism are both 10c each, a Tauren Druid only starts off with 1 weapon, legs & chest (not sure what other's start with) So selling all weap/armor you don't get enough to train in either profession. With the Luna Festival going on right now helped, and there is only 1 quest in the starter zone that allows you to met one NPC for 40 xp (nothing more) then you have to head to Bloodhoof Village (no daily or non-kill quests there). What isn't in the rules is that you can do any NON-kill/combat quests (escort (no kill), delivery &/or dailies (fishing, cooking, etc.) &/or holiday events (non-kill/combat) and that you can buy/sell anything to vendors and the AH.

hmm... it must vary by race then... I think my character was a Dwarf and had enough to buy Herbalism.
Rule 3: No kills allowed. Not even for questing.
Why would we have a rule about quests when they are allowed?

I have no clue, I didn't write up the rules but I think it should be added with a few other things to clear up confusion. Seems the Pacifist & Ironman share the same FAQ(s) & Rule(s)

This can be added to the FAQ but I don't really feel like it has a place in the rules. The rules are generally things to define the challenge not a guide or a tip & tricks list.

By the way, there are several delivery quests in Stormwind (tailors delivering things to other tailors, the wine chit quest that gets you a bottle of wine you can vendor) which you can do to get enough gold for herbing, if you think selling the clothes off you back is beneath you. Then you can buy herbing, pick a few nodes, vendor/auction the herbs, buy mining, and you're off and running. That's what I've done the first two pacifists I've started. It makes me feel like Ben Franklin, wandering into colonial Philadelphia with only a puffy roll under his arm!

I'm Horde and Tauren, there isn't any but 1 that a Pacifist can do - Luna Festival helped a wee bit but nothing to get you past lvl 1. I'm not sure about other classes; but I was able to do 1 starter zone quest (no gold only about 45 xp), and the one Luna Elder gave enough copper along with selling my staff (not that I need it) to buy Herbalism. I'd love to hear how different race starter zones are different

My first pacifist was a blood elf. I had to sell all my gear to hae enough gold to learn herbalism, picked up a few herbs, vendored them and bought my gear back . I did the same on my current gnome pacifist. The bloodthistle near Silvermoon give as mch xp as peacebloom or silverleaf at low lvls, but the run posted by LokivTokiv in Durotar is a lot easier (from Razor Hill to Valley of trials to Sen'Jin village and back) For alliance, there are many herbs and copper ore in the gnomes starting area, with mostly yellow mobs around
