With the eminent and unavoidable onset of level-scaling coming soon™, should we perhaps begin preemptively discussing alternatives to the current Iron Man challenge in case the current challenge ends up becoming too difficult for some classes to manage in all-white gear?
Have we ever discussed a Green Man Challenge? Same rule set as Iron except for the addition of being able to equip green-quality gear?
This also opens up a possible segue into a "Rusty Man" (Patina Man?) Challenge? Same rule set at Tin Man, able to use Talents and take occasional deaths?
Thoughts?
I haven't been around in Iron Man for very long, but I do plan to "main" the challenge at least until 8.0, so I don't know if this has been discussed before.
Thanks!

Pre-level cap the game is balanced around green quality gear so that'd just be normal ez mode leveling

Like Broken Fox said, ironman in green gear would be like normal with no death.
Tests were made with talents for bloodthirsty for lvl 100+, and it was found that talents do not give a big boost.
Xayawarroir lvl 61 nightelf warrior (alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayamonk lvl 110 tinman draenai monk Wyrmrest Accord Xayapaci lvl 36 pacifist gnome rogue (alive) Wyrmrest Accord Xayahorde lvl 20 bloodelf rogue (alive) Wyrmrest Accord

Honestly, I believe level-scaling will make things much faster for leveling in old-world content. Instead of farming green-level quests at slightly reduced XP, you'll be getting full quest XP. The mobs will be a little stronger as they will either be one level lower or at level than you, but they will be killed fairly quickly all the same. It'll make things a little more difficult for some classes (let's say the Shaman, they're horrid) but overall should be fine for most.

I'm sure there will be a separate list for WoW Classic Iron Man too right?

I'm sure there will be a separate list for WoW Classic Iron Man too right? 100% doing this if Blizzard makes the data available through the API (as they do with regular servers now). That "Classic" Iron Challenge will be extremely difficult, especially in the 51+ range. Will be good stuff.

From a personal standpoint, I'm a bit worried about leveling specific Iron classes at-level, but I'm sure it will just make the challenge all the sweeter if/when you can actually make it to max level. Just wanted to get some pre-discussion going on the subject in case we're whollup'd with " ohgodthisreallysucks" in the near future

Just wanted to get some pre-discussion going on the subject in case we're whollup'd with " ohgodthisreallysucks" in the near future It's only been in Legion that almost all classes are reasonably capable of getting to max level. Warriors were considered impossible for a long time and I don't think a Shaman ever made it until Legion. Having a class that's particularly difficult or a pain wouldn't be anything new to the challenge, though I will say I do enjoy being able to try every class without wanting to pull all my hair out. I'm sure it'll be fine, and like you said, it'll just make getting to max that much sweeter. At least it shouldn't bring us back to being the "Ironman Hunter Challenge."

With the scaling I would actually like to look back and try to get a sort of group challenge going. You can no longer outlevel dungeons unless you go over the max level of the level bracke (so 61, 81, 91 and 101). 3 man dungeons with some restrictions maybe? Only self crafted gear for example?

Tentatively we'll be allowing dungeons with the Iron Team challenge. We're in the process of getting our login & account pages set up first.

it seems like Ironman will become a chore with white gear only. Only pulling single mobs and being on the brink of death everytime you accidentally pull a second one... hardcore indeed.
It would be neat if Blizzard added more statistic tracker options, like how many green pieces someone has equipped or/and on which bodyparts.

*poke for bumps* I've been grinding away at reps lately to unlock Allied races *shakesfist*, so I haven't been running on my Irons for a bit, but I was just wondering if we feel that this proposition has become more of an option now that scaling is in and white/grey leveling is quite grueling. Legion definitely gave us a taste of quicker Iron leveling and I don't know if the step back is going to be as satisfying for a lot of folks. A greens-only no-death leveling run using the Iron rule set may be a close facsimile of Legion Iron'ing if not a bit easier (which may be a fun thing for beginners). You would be able to at least play through Legion content Plus! Tabards, shirts, and Worgans would be good to go out the gate!
