Hi folks, I'm writing this for people like me, but also for myself, as a kind of notepad to put some random thoughts here. Rules I might include in one of my future challenges. I just love to try new things. Feel free to add some or comment on the existing ones. Random Ideas:
Edit: new additions are bold___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ level related - Items get a level requirement of +5 levels (+2 in expansion zones)
- equip items only every 5 levels (every 2 in expansion zones) (equip at 5, 10, 15, 20,... 60, 62, 64,...)
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ drop related - Bloodlust Man: you loot a blue item --> stop what you do and look for a red mob (or +5 levels) --> kill him: you can keep the item // get killed: you lose the blue and the highest level equipped item
- Berserker Man (Optional addition to Bloodlust Man): you set your character on autorun when you loot the blue item - you can't stop running until you attack the high level mob
- Blue Man: you may only wear blue dropped and questitems
- Rare Man: you may only equip items from rare-mobs >= your level
- Twin Man: you may only equip items you have twice (only mob drops)
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ outfit related -) as a plate character (warrior, paladin, dk) you only wear cloth-items. -) Optional: additionaly only one 1-hand sword - Battlemage II:
-) you wear common/white plate items -) you are allowed to wear 1 green chest/robe (Itemrequirement +5 levels) (+2 in expansions) -) you are allowed to wear 1 blue chest/robe (+10 levels)(+4 in expansions) -) no Tank spec (too easy) - Trapper: plate characters only equip dropped / crafted leather items
- Shockadin: Holy Paladin with cloth-gear
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ kill related - Nature lover: you don't kill animals / plants.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ feature related: - gain extralifes (for difficult rules, like Bloodlust, Berserker,...) (for example through killing rares >= your level, finishing a zone storyline, exploring the whole zone, getting x number of quests in a zone,...)
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ map related:
- realism mode: turn off the player arrow on the worldmap: /script WorldMapUnitPositionFrame:SetAlpha(0)
- play without minimap (addon: moveanything), questtracking & highlighted quests on the map (option on the world map)

For the Battlemage idea: [*] I've tried this and it's really fun! I have a Draenai Warrior who is only wearing a robe and wielding a Bastard Sword. I got him up to Tanaris. I actually had to skip some quests and come back later. Something else I added to this challenge was to wait for swing animations. So if you're swinging your autoattack, you can't interupt it to use Heroic Strike, you have to wait for the animation. That's part of what made some of the quests difficult.
Other ideas: [*] Only starter or iLvl 1 gear & weapons [*] Limited to only using 4 abilites at a time. To change, you have to visit a faction city. If you die, you have to remove one ability. To gain the ability back, you have to gain 2 levels, or 1 level in other expansions [*] Restriction on how far zoomed out from your character you can be. My suggestion: 3 mousewheels back, though this might be slightly too close for larger races [*] No UI, only a compass (There actually is a compass addon) [*] No flightpaths, hearthstones, or flying mounts [*] Only 3 quests at a time [*] Cannot use quest tracking or map quest objective tracking [*] I also thought of an idea for a guild, < The Naked Consortium >, where we'd see how much of the content, like dungeons, could be done naked (with an iLvl 1 weapon) and tried at level.

Do you know the name? I'm looking for this for quite some time. Does it work with the Minimap hidden? Edit: Hah, I found it I'm not sure why I haven't found it before... heh I was also looking for an addon to turn off the player-arrow on the worldmap. I think it could be interesting, if you couldn't be sure where exactly you are and have to watch your surroundings to find out. I'm playing without quest tracking and quest objectives on the map for a while now in all my challenges and it's much more immersive. Reading the quest text became important.

Turning off the player arrow would be interesting. I'll have to look around.
Unfortunately, when you get to the later expansions they stop telling you the cardinal directions in quests, because you could just look at the map... which I don't like.

Okay, so there is a way to turn off the player arrow on the world map. You can create a macro with the following command: /script WorldMapUnitPositionFrame:SetAlpha(0)
It's really disconcerting to not see yourself on the map at first.

Oh my god, you have no idea how long I was looking for this O__O You're awesome, thank you very much!! To turn it back on, do I have to replace the 0 with 1? ___________________ Edit: new additions in the 1st post are bold

Yep, you just change back to 1 to get it show again. I can't take much credit, Fizzlemizz over on the WoW UI forums gave me the answer. :] As my battlemage is on an account that's not active at the moment, I'm going to remake him on this one. Here are some guidelines I'm going to try and follow. Wandering Swordsman: * Equipped: Plain Robe, Exodar Bastard Sword * Keeps very little possessions * Spends very little gold * Wait for swing animations * Minimal UI via Immersive * Disable quest tracking and quest objective tracking on map * Disable player arrow on world map * No hearthstone * No mounts (not sure about this one yet) * Minimal flightpaths (destination has to be at least two zones away) * Reputation and profession bags only

Here are some guidelines I'm going to try and follow. Wandering Swordsman: @1.) all rarities allowed? Only chest item and naked or other items as well? @2.) what do you possess? @3.) what do you spend it for? @4.) personally I can't see me doing this, haha. I guess battles would feel to slow for me. My hunter lv.17, who plays without pet, has still only one real attack skill. One grapple and the others use are only effective with pet. It feels a bit bland. Using 2hand weapons is tiring when waiting for swings, do you use 1handers? @5.) That's a cool one, I've tried this with the Soulsearcher Challenge and I love it. @6.) Imho mounts don't change that much, don't take away from the immersion. I don't use flying mounts though. @7.) good idea, making it about distance

1. Just the chest item and weapon. 2. No hoarding of items if I'm not currently using them. Things like keeping around cooking ingredients for an eventual recipe. Or keeping around profession mats that won't be used. 3. I suppose with the other restrictions, there's not much to buy. 4. Nope, the Exodar Bastard Sword is a 2H. The whole point of adding the wait on swing animations is to slow down combat and make it seem more like an actual fight. You end up doing so much damage, even without gear, that you can still end up one shotting mobs.

Here's one off the top of my head:
- Best Defense is a good Offense challenge: Run completely naked except for the best weapon you can find, maybe even an heirloom weap. Key is to murder things before getting squishified.

- See below for class retrictions
- Can only equip: head, wrist, belt, pants, and boots
- No AH or vendor bought armor or weapons
- No green quality quest items or green quality found loot (Exception: shields)

- Have to keep associated profession tools (i.e. mining pick, skinning knife, blacksmith's hammer, fishing pole, etc.)
- No minimap or world map can be used (I unbound M and got Classic Quest Log)
- No quest objectives shown
- All NPC names turned off
- Nameplates only shown in combat
- Vanilla mount restrictions and cost
- Have to have an item that represents your mount kept in your bags
Level | Skill | Cost | Cost (Exalted) | 40 | Apprentice (60%) | 100 Gold | 90 Gold | 60 | Journeyman (100%) | 1000 Gold | 900 Gold | 70 | Journeyman++ (100%) | 2000 Gold | n/a |

- Death: Pay 100% of durability cost (See: et.worldofwarcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Durability)

Class Restrictions: Warrior Shaman - 1H Mace and Shield
- No Lightning Bolt
- No Healing Surge
Paladin - 1H Sword and Shield
- No Flash of Light
- No Cleanse Toxins
- No Shield of Vengeance
I know this seems extreme in places, and maybe a little complicated, but it's actually really fun. Even on live, this is fun to play. Profession gear ends up actually being an upgrade. Having to search for ore without the minimap or map is really rewarding when you find a node. The stipulations on money makes it so that you have to work to afford to buy recipes and hard to find crafting materials. Without the map, you get to know a zone in a new way. Instead of constantly looking at your minimap or map to see where you are, you have to get your bearings and remember which path it was you took into that cave. Limiting equippable gear slots, makes fights seem like actual fights, and there's even a possiblity (on live) of possibly dying if you get two mobs on you. Let me know what you guys think! Edit: Added more classes

Is blue crafted gear allowed? I've tried playing without player arrow and without minimap but I've never tried to let go of the map, this sounds quite hardcore. Hehe. Do you get lost a lot? Do any skills from the two warrior specs not work because you wear a shield? I didn't know that you actually could equip a shield with those specs. Interesting.

Yep, any crafted gear is allowed.
Actually, you'd be surprised, I don't really get lost that often. Knowing you don't have the map, it's kind of an automatic to pay more attention to where you're going. I've gotten turned around a couple times, but you end up learning the landscape a lot better.
Yes, making it so you have to equip a shield, does take away some of your abilities. That's part of what makes the combat so challenging. On my Arms Warrior, I currently have Charge, Victory Rush, and Execute. I'll be getting Colossus Smash. I'm doing Arms, and I'm not sure if Fury can equip a shield. They can duel wield 2 2H, so...maybe? I'll have to switch specs and see if it lets me. One of the challenges I based this on was from a while ago, so things maybe have changed. I might have to restrict it to only Arms, if they can't. Or possibly for Fury, only allowing 1 2H weapon to be equipped.
Edit: It seems like it might have to be restricted to Arms Warrior only. You can equip a 2H sword and shield as a Fury Warrior, but you also then can use all your abilities. Part of the challenge of this is that you don't have the full compliment of abilities. Going to check into other possible classes that could be added.
Edit 2: Added more classes. See original post.

I'm very curious how it would feel to play classes with gear they aren't supposed to wear. You just set the rules before you start and try to get the most out of it.
It's a bit sad that cloth wearers aren't allowed to wear heavier gear, the same with the leather professions. Blizzard could give all the classes a buff to encourage wearing the right gear, but it would just give us more fun options if it was possible.
I think it would be fun, at least just for the looks, to create crazy new combos -) DK with a shield -) DK with leather and daggers -) Rogues with 2-handers -) Paladins with staffs -) Druids fighting in their humanoid forms
...all of course not viable, but for fun only.
