Link to the siteFellow Ironman Challengers, I'm the developer of wowironman.com, and I thought I'd create a single thread to post updates. Current status: Completely!? working. Current task: -- Most recent changes: - Automatically updating now: Every minute, I update the 5 characters which haven't been updated in the longest amount of time.
- Fixed one quest item counting as an elixir, and can add more in the future
Future tasks: - Fixing URL issues caused by characters such as ' and non-Latin
- Improving performance, possibly switching to memcached for pre-rendered tables instead of a db cache
- Allowing filtering by realm language

Just wanted to jump in and say a big thankyou Casa! I'm sure most folks appreciate the time and effort you have put into the website so we can see how the other challengers are going

This post from another thread on this board got me thinking about something: Remember: wowironman.com is tracker NOT a leaderboard. This is not a competition, we can't stress that enough. The site is there to record your progress and let you know how your fellow challengers are doing. It is NOT there to show who is 'winning'. Ironlord is correct; this is not a competition, and it's not a leaderboard. But if I might, I'd like to suggest one small change to the board. The use of the word 'Standings' kind of implies that there is a competition going on, and that players are being ranked (even if only implicitly). Perhaps changing the label from 'Overall/Current Standings' to something like 'Current Participants' would better reinforce the idea that we are all Joint Participants in a series of Individual Challenges as opposed to Contestants in a Race. Another chance that would be more than strictly cosmetic, but might also help move folks away from the idea of 'needing to be at the top of the list': Could the table be made sortable by column, so that it could be sorted by Realm, Race, Class, or Name instead of only by Level? That would obviously take some additional coding, of course... casa, great job on the site! Thanks a bunch!!

A participants board is a good idea. Personally I like to see how far someone playing my class has gotten, who the next person ahead of me is. Gives me a short-term target to aim for as well as encouragement that those levels can be reached.

Hi Casa,
Firstly congrats on a great site, its great to see lots of new people joining up.
If you're looking for things to add to the site, I have a couple of ideas:
1] Links to the blizz forum where the latest rules and FAQ are. 2] A filter by class would be great - so we can see how each class is doing.
That's all I can think of for now.

congratulations for the site! My suggestion is the inclusion of the brazilian flag for oficial brazilian servers: Azralon, Gallywix, Goldrinn, Nemesis, Tol Barad. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Brazil

The flag is based on region, not realm. I know the USA flag doesn't represent the entire North and South America + Australia, New Zealand, etc. region, but Blizzard calls the region "US" so I went with it. Changing the flags to be related to realm would be kind of complicated. Brazil is easy, but people from Spanish realms might be from any of 20 countries. Good ideas on the terminology changes, and I'll add a few links. Sorting, filtering, and splitting it up into pages to reduce load times are things I'd like to do, but these are made difficult by the way the site runs for performance reasons. I don't generate the list every time someone views it, I just generate it when it's updated, then save it on the server for later use... This is called caching. I get something like 50,000 page views per day, and generating lists every time anyone loads the page just isn't an option. Generating lists for each combination of race, realm, class, and multiply pages every time someone updates the list would be excessive, and it's unlikely that people would look at every one of these pages before another update is made. The solution is to generate these cached pages when someone views them, and have the update functions delete the appropriate files. This is doable, but would be a few hours work, and as everything is finally working for the first time, I'm going to put it off a bit

What are peoples thoughts on including "invalid" characters in the list? Maybe move them to another page?

Great site Casa, but I have some problems adding my char to the list. I add it, it says "character added" but I can't see it in the list. Name is Hellix on vek'nilash, US.

Fixed. Realms with apostrophes in their names continue to cause problems

Casa, for invalid chars, it's a bit of a conundrum. While I do think trolls should be eliminated, Some people are doing the challenge just a little bit differently than the general rules state - which is fine since it is a PERSONAL challenge. On the other hand, I have noticed that people with red 'x's' have started to become sort of discriminated against, which also completely goes against the spirit of the challenge. So I don't think I can give a solid yes or no answer to that question. Whatever you guys come up with I'm fine with
