Congrats Margymonk, winner of the May leveling contest! I will be sending out an email to you today.
Top 10 Qualifying Characters: 1. Margymonk - Monk - 79 2. Täliron - Rogue - 64 3. Margadin - Paladin - 55 4. Cuprummagna - Monk - 43 5. Meylian - Shaman - 40 6. Ironsongone - Priest - 33 7. Rantok - Druid - 33 8. Schlanger - Druid - 32 9. Maldios - Warlock - 28 10. Mathiew - Rogue - 28
We're going to be holding an Ironman leveling contest throughout May.
Start: May 10 midnight Pacific. End: May 31 23:59:59 Pacific. (although I'm thinking of making it ONLY May)
To enter, you must OPT IN and supply an email address where I can contact you when you add your Level 10 character to the website.
- You can enter your Level 10 character at any point during the contest. - Death Knights are excluded. - Hunters are excluded (do not want a hunter leveling contest at this point). - Monks ARE allowed. Everyone has their opinion, however, Monks get to melee. It's a completely different experience from Hunters. - ALL regular Iron Man rules apply. - Stone & Leeta have final say on the winner if things look fishy. Don't be that person to roll a monk for the quest xp buff... it is not allowed under our rules. - The winner will be the highest level Iron that opted in that is not dead and is green-flagged. Again, Stone & Leeta have final say on the winner. - Tiebreaker will be determined by Stone and Leeta. - If your contest challenger dies, you ARE allowed to re-roll and enter a new character in at Level 10.
The winner will receive their choice of: - WoW game card for a month of game-play. - 1 mount from the Blizzard store. - 2 pets from the Blizzard store (please note not all pets are giftable).

Cool idea, Stone & Leeta--thanks for setting this up. I've rolled a toon ("Dvormonk" NE Monk--I'm not creative) which I'll be entering in the contest, with the idea of being supportive--because I like the idea of contests like this. In theory. However, I really DO need to prioritize actually getting one of my hunters up to 100 before the pre-Legion patch changes everything. So I expect to be at or near the bottom, rooting everyone on--or perhaps, if I find I like leveling iron monks, I'll level a bit and then die in a spectacular fashion right before the contest ends. Leeeroy Jenkins! By the way, Brittle suggested on guild chat that maybe we could experiment with a designated race and class next time? (Is Gnome shaman a thing?) I thought that was worth considering.

It is a good idea however the duration is too long (end of May would be better) and it should be focused on one class only - as it is warrior doesnt stand a chance to the hordes of monks that will quest with a double exp buff.

Agreed. You could have a monthly challenge with a different class each month. Gives people an incentive to play classes they never have before.

Gives people an incentive to play classes they never have before. That was my biggest thought on that idea as well.

Monthly contest is nice idea but funding it each month is not guaranteed right now.

Awesome, I'll be submitting a rogue, and maybe a monk as a backup.
regarding the Monks XP buff, isn't that against the Iron Man Rules?

Great idea. My contest toon will be a gnome rogue named Applecor. He is listed under Ironman and ready to go.

panda's get rested xp quicker Oh I didn't know that .... does it make that much of a difference, I suppose any advantage is help while in a race ... but while the monk is at the inn resting I'll be out questing. Also for what it's worth, a 2 month challenge is fine by me ... will give me the opportunity to get back in the race with a new toon every time I kill one off

Really don't wanna be a debbie downer here...honestly...BUT, even though monks are melee, they are pretty OP for Ironman and WILL have an advantage over other classes (even without the daily XP boost - which also runs the risk of getting abused since it can't be tracked). Especially a panda monk since pandas have faster rested XP. A monk is going to win this, no doubt. Stone, I know you said no changes will be made at this point and that's okay, it's probably too late anyway. But I think others are correct when saying it would be best for everyone to play the same class. It keeps everyone on a relatively even playing field. You can even put hunters back in that way. Also, if doing this every month is an issue because of the prizes, I really don't think the prizes are needed. I think most people (and maybe I'm speaking for myself - I'd like to know what others think here) would say just winning, and perhaps having their character honored on the website as the winner, would be enough incentive. Maybe some people would be willing to donate pets for future prizes. I know I have a few level 25 pets I wouldn't mind throwing in the pot. I really really love the idea of this competition, and even though I'm in the process of moving and won't have much time to get on in the next few weeks, I'm gonna give it a go with a human rogue. I think it's going to be a lot of fun!

With the amount of people we have here, I don't think we're all going to come to a consensus but on the bright side we have LOTS of time to have other contests.
I *am* going to change the end date to May 30 as we could possibly fit in more contests... maybe always do a 21-day leveling contest or something.
As far as prizes each month... I mean, if I get any donations from companies or something (never has happened before but you never know) I could totally put those up. Bragging rights may just be enough for all of us?
