So in essence, it's not against the rules, but most people agree it is kinda bad form and wouldn't do it. That feels fair.

If anyone likes to do the Darkmoon Faire dailies for the tickets, you might want to avoid The Human Cannonball. It sometimes bugs out. Theoretically it should do no more damage than drop you in a tree when this happens, but it can go very wrong. My main has died doing this quest more than once so I won't even touch it with my Ironman.

I got killed by this on my (non Ironman) Arcane mage. No pet, no AOE. Bizarre.

So as I've mentioned, I've been working on Loremaster as well as Ironman. The whole idea isn't to just get the title, but to fully experience the game and all its questlines. I have three main characters I've been using for Loremaster - A monk, a mage and a warlock. I also try not to use heirlooms on them, unless I need a little power boost to finish a quest. I completed all the Horde side Vanilla zones with these three characters before I began on Ironman, and I took a break from Ironman when I reached Outland in order to scout out the starting zones / work a bit on Loremaster. Ah, Outland. Home of getting mobbed and low drop-rate item quests. To think the first time I quested through Hellfire Peninsula I was on a PVP realm as well. No wonder I have only bad memories of it. So I took my monk through Hellfire Peninsula. I died a few times, though to be fair I wasn't exactly playing safe. Then I took my mage through Zangarmarsh. I died about one million times. To be honest, I'm terrible at playing a mage, (and it's why I chose my mage - I wanted my weakest character to get a feel of how challenging the zone can be) but still, I was surprised at how hard Zangarmarsh quests can be at level 60. Hellfire Peninsula creatures have a tendency to mob, and that's my biggest fear as a hunter, but then so do Zangarmarsh creatures, and at least on Hellfire Peninsula they're lower levels (I mean apart from the level 70 Fel Reavers) and you can usually see them coming. So instead of taking my Ironman to Zangarmarsh as I had planned, I'm slowly and carefully chipping away at Hellfire Peninsula quests one by one. It is nerve destroying though. At one point, Tagar Spinebreaker, a rare elite, spawned right behind me and stunned me with his 8 second stun. Thankfully, his attention turned to my pet while I was stunned, and after the longest 8 seconds of my life I managed to ice trap him and escape. I've had to play dead and let my pet die more than once. One of these times, I was fighting Burning Blade orcs when that dreadful sound, earth shaking combo that means a Fel Reaver is approaching happened. On the other hand, I'm not quite as squishy as I expected. I even managed to kill the rare spawn Mekthorg the Wild. Some of the quests that I thought would be impossible, (like killing Worg Master Kruush) have turned out totally fine as long as I'm extremely careful at all times. Honestly my biggest threat right now is to find myself ambushed by another rare elite, or else mobbed, or both. Unfortunately the chances of that happening are pretty high. I've noticed Hellfire Peninsula creatures love to call for help or run. So much for Shattered Hand orcs being super brave. I'm really hoping to be level 64, maybe even 65 (though I doubt I'll manage that) before questing in Zangarmarsh. I'm 63 at the moment. Plus, there's plenty of mushrooms which make kiting much easier. Also of note: * Rather Be Fishin' is a Level 64 quest that's available at level 62 at the Orphanage in northern Shattrath City. The eels are hilariously underpowered and will be the weakest quest NPCs you will run across in the entire Burning Crusade expansion by a large margin. (They also give greatly reduced xp when killed.) * The caves in Zangarmarsh has an invisible mob that seems to have a thing for killing iron Hunters. Never met it on my Rogue, but the trigger may have something to do with AoE and/or pets. * Most of Hellfire Peninsula isn't that bad if you know what to look for (at least from the Rogue perspective)...but it only takes missing one patrolling mob to ruin your day, and HP has lots of patrollers, including the overpowered Fel Reavers. However, don't do any questing there if your aggro dump is on cooldown. Thank you! I'll definitely go grab the Rather Be Fishin' quest. I'm also going to avoid the cave in Zangarmarsh completely. I actually ran into the invisible mob on my non Ironman mage, which is weird because my mage was specced as Arcane at the time - no pet or AOE. I think the worst thing about Outland is there's no such thing as distracting them with your pets while you run like hell. If you run, you'll only run into another creature. So feign death is sometimes the only option, but it's a risky one all on its own. Not only have I found that the ability sometimes bugs out, but if I feign death too close to some creatures, and they don't move far enough away, then they're going to kill me the moment I get up.

Thank you! I'm playing a hunter, so kiting is definitely in.

So it's time for a break. The squish was ridiculously fun. I got my revenge in Un'Goro Crater, did the Silithis quests (skipping the one that flags you for PVP) and finished up with the Blasted Lands quests. Then I kinda just flew around and killed mobs that I used to be scared of. Immature? Maybe. Fun? Hell yes.
Next step is Outland, but before I venture there I have to go back to working a little on Loremaster with my other characters so that I have a basic idea of what to expect. (At the moment, levelling in Hellfire Penninsula with a monk that *should* be overpowered - death. Death seems to be what I can expect. I'll probably start with Zangarmarsh when I go back to my Ironman anyway though.)

OK well, I definitely don't agree with the idea that the AH shouldn't be allowed, so I guess this one is down to personal philosophy.
Also, Lyssan, I wouldn't have asked, but with this whole "abnormal levelling speed" thing, when I asked what that was, Stone said if you're uncertain about something, ask. Don't not do it, just ask. As for having to defend a way for gaining XP, I'm not feeling a need to defend it to myself, I just want to be certain it's not against the rules before doing it, and presenting my arguments about why, to me, I don't think it should be. If it is against the rules, I wouldn't do it, but if it's down to personal philosophy then I'm definitely gonna go for it.
Thank you, Margothon, you're right. I'm not here to be the Ironman who levelled a hunter to 100 without a pet, or the Ironman who levelled a naked warrior, or the Ironman who never did dailies, or the Ironman who never uses the AH. Getting to 100 without dying and without breaking any of the official rules is enough for me.

Yes, by buying it off the Auction House.
Using the AH is not against the rules.

Don't know anything about Darkmoon Faire artifacts, but based on your post ... I would say that if there was ever a reason to disallow the Auction House, this would be it. Don't know what the official rules say, don't know what the web site tracks, but this just feels very wrong. Just my opinion mind you. I disagree As I said, the artifacts are expensive. At the moment I have less than a thousand gold. That means I can buy maybe five artifacts and be broke. Making and spending gold without professions is its own challenge. I've made this gold myself, and it's taken time and effort because it means regularly visiting the auction house. The artifacts don't give a huge amount of XP either. You're meant to play this challenge as if it's your only character. By using the gold I've made myself to buy expensive artifacts to make a small amount of relatively safe XP, I feel like I would be doing this without breaking the spirit of the challenge at all. This isn't free XP like an XP buff would be, it comes with a cost of sacrifice and effort. I don't see how this is any worse than doing the Plants vs Zombies quests, making XP safely from exploring, or the bag trick people use at the Darkmoon Faire to make money.

Darkmoon Faire has arrived and I want to buy artifacts off the Auction House and turn them in for XP. I feel that I should be allowed to do this, as the FAQ clearly states that you're allowed to use the Auction House, and these artifacts are expensive so I would be sacrificing money that could be spent on other things, plus it's not like you can buy an infinite amount of artifacts and keep turning them in. However, I just want to make 100% sure that this is allowed before I get yellow flagged or something.

So, for the first time, I've managed to reach level 61!
At level 59, I did wind up going to Un'Goro Crater, but only had to do one or two quests before I hit 60. After that, and after grabbing flying and my new bow, I headed straight to Hillsbrad Foothills to do the Plants vs Zombies knockoff questline, then to Arathi Highlands for the first aid quest. Next, I fully explored every Vanilla area for levels 35 and up, did the first couple of quests in Outland (there's about 4 or 5 go here and speak to this person quests before any action begins), and finally, I explored all the Outland zones except for Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley.
I just killed my first dinosaur in Un'Goro Crater. Oh my sweet lord. I can't believe how powerful I am in Vanilla zones now!
I'm so nervous I actually feel slightly nauseated.

... pacifist... how do you do it I have not the patience for that, oh no sir I really enjoyed playing my Pacifist, appeals to the miser in me. Spend all my time picking up rocks and flowers to auction for thousands and thousands of gold for me to sit on and hoard. MWAHAHA! A kinda overlooked side to these challenges. You tend to make money on these characters rather than lose it. I've made quite a bit on my various Ironmen. If I die I just transfer what I've made to my banking alt.

Oh my lord, I was busy on this exact quest while reading this. I've never felt more paranoid. Got through it fine though. I wonder what was hitting you?
