Updated with new build info. I'm pretty certain that doing No Spec will be EXTREMELY difficult for them to do.... there are literally no longer any Specless abilities. So if we got to have no spec, you'd have no spells / abilities to use to help you level up. Auto-Attack all the way to 110.
Also, Spec Changes do NOT count as a Talent Tree Respec... so default spec may not be trackable at all. I've asked for a Spec Changes stat to track that very stat. If we don't get that stat, your Challenger will indeed be able to swap specs as many times as you want.

Sure people could take the "easier" spec, but easier compared to what... Fire mage? Some specs may not be any easier or harder than the default specs but at least people can play the way that they want to. With scaling mobs and such post-100 I can't see a class like fire mage having a chance whereas a beast mastery hunter probably could still manage it.

After hitting Level 15 a Talent was not selected by default. One less thing to worry about in Legion.

I added the default specs that were given using the Level 100 Character Creation Template... this basically lets you create a Level 100 character to go test the new stuff out.
I found it interesting, if not confusing, that there were some differences between Level 1 and Level 100 default specs.
Druid: (L 1) Restoration vs. (L 100) Balance Hunter: (L 1) Beast Master vs. (L 100) Survival Priest: (L 1) Discipline vs. (L 100) Shadow Rogue: (L 1) Subtlety vs. (L 100) Outlaw Warrior: (L 1) Arms vs. (L 100) Fury
I'm wondering if the difference is due to Blizzard wanting folks to try testing the other specs at Level 100 due to there having been significant changes to that particular spec... I'm going to tweet them in the hopes of an answer.

There was a new build deployed last night I think, so I'm going to re-confirm all of our tests.
The DK Ghoul despawn bug has been fixed. Will be testing out how the starting zone feels now compared to what's Live. Reconfirmed Level 1 default specs.

Also found that the Level 100 default specializations are now only different for two classes:
Druid: Restoration (Level 1) vs. Feral (Level 100) Mage: Fire (Level 1) vs. Frost (Level 100)
I'll level these two classes to 10 to see what happens when we can gain access to the Spec UI, however, they do not currently have an ability to use at Level 1, so I'm going to wait until they have something so leveling won't take 500 years.

Some changes here...
- The default spec for Druids at Level 1 is now Feral. This matches the default spec at Level 100. - Druids now have abilities at Level 1 for Cat Form.
- Mages are still Fire at Level 1 and Frost at Level 100. - Mages and Warlocks still don't have an adequate Level 1 spell to level with.
- testing with DKs have led me to conclude that it may actually be impossible to leave Archerus let alone the starting zone.

Did some testing with Build 21267 and found some differences:
- Rogue Level 1 default is now Assassination... Rogue L100 is still Subtlety. - Mage Level 1 default is now Frost which matches Level 100 spec.

A new build was deployed (21287) that did make some important changes.
- Spec changes now have a rising cost (capped at the 5th change). This price scales depending on your Character Level. At Level 100 it is: FREE, 15g, 31g, 46g, 62g. All spec changes after that cost 62g. - A DK at Level 55 is able to spec change once free. The 2nd spec change is 85 SILVER. - Due to the ability to spec change, DKs will now be able to leave the starting zone, however, it will be much easier than it is currently. DKs will be changed back to Yellow Flags.

By that logic shouldn't all characters be yellow flagged once Legion drops? And I thought the discussion had been that spec changes weren't going to be allowed... or is that still up for debate?

All characters don't start at Level 55. The higher start was offset by the difficulty on getting out of the zone (not counting you Veterans). Specs change all this.
My hope was to disallow spec changes if everyone is on board... BUT... if I can't track it, I'd rather not make the rule. It's SO easy to spec change / break that rule it's going to cause more problems than it's worth trying to enforce.

Death Knights have their own ladders, so what is the point of the yellow flag?

Death Knights have their own ladders, so what is the point of the yellow flag? To me, regardless of whether they're on their own ladder or not, the green flags *feel* like they're equal. With the changes coming in Legion they will not be.

But they compete amongst themselves. Nobody can possibly deny that DK is easier than other classes even now - grinding for several hours for a white weapon doesnt come close to leveling an ironman from 1 to 55. Based on your logic they should already have a yellow flag.
